Chapter 18 - Jealous

 “You have to tell us everything!” Kailtyn begs as we sit outside the juice bar in the mall the next day.

“It's not that interesting.” I say but the smile on my face mut give something away.

“Just tell us! Please!” Alyssa pleads.

“Okay fine!” I tell them every single detail from the message in the morning to his goodbye kiss. Then I remember Nash's face.

“He seemed really... I don't know? Upset? This can't be about Hayes and I can it?”

“I don't know. Nash is a strange guy sometimes.” Alyssa laughs. “Maybe he is just jealous cos he is single?” She giggles again.

We sit sipping our juices when suddenly Kaitlyn points in the direction of the Superdry store.

“Hey isn't that Hayes?”

I turn and see him going through a rack of shirts so I yell his name.

“Hey guys what you up to?” He comes over and perches on the edge of my seat.

“Just chilling. What about you? Where's Megan?” I say spitefully.

“Funny you say that. I was meant to meet her but she had to go visit a relative last minute. So I got left here.”

“Hang with us then. We were gonna catch a movie or something.”

He says yes then we head to the movie theatre on the top floor.

“I really wanna watch Zac Efron's new movie.” Alyssa begs so we give in a buy four tickets. I sit between Kaitlyn and Hayes and wait for the film to start. The trailers come on and I see Hayes scrolling through his inbox. I spot him messaging Megan.

H: I miss you babe.

M: I miss you too. I'm sorry about today :(

H: No worries. Hey I'm gonna get you a surprise for when you get back ;)

He looks up at me and sees me staring.

“Um, what is a good present for a girl?” He says.

“I don't know. Like, chocolate or jewelry?”

“That's good!” He exclaims. “You need to help me get a gift for Megan. I'm hopeless with girls...”

“You're obviously not. You have a girlfriend?”

“I got lucky.” I laugh when he says this.

“You guys are cute together...” I trail off at the end of my sentence.

The film finally finishes a couple of hours later and we all walk back into the main part of the mall.

“Me and Alyssa need to head off now.” Kaitlyn tells me. I know they are going to meet Noah and Kyle but are trying to keep it on the down low.

“Okay. See you later.” I hug them both then turn to Hayes when they have gone.

“So Megan's present?”

“Let's go.”

We go inside the jewellers on the second floor and I scan all the glass cases for any sign of a cute ring or bracelet. My eyes are drawn to a silver band with a blue stone in the middle. It's perfect.

“Hayes, I like this one.” I say and he comes over.

“Yeah.” He asks the woman behind the counter for it. As I wait beside him I watch his face twist into a smile as the woman hands him the ring in a small white box. His eyes glitter, telling me he really does like Megan. He deserves her.

“Come on. Nash is coming to get me and he can give you a lift if you want.”

“That would be great.” We head to the entrance of the mall and wait by the steps, where Tanner's brother picked me and him up only a day ago. Nash rides up in his step dad's van, the windows rolled down and music blasting. 'Wild Life' by the Jacks is playing.

“Get in homeboy” He yells then sees me. He whispers with Hayes for a second then invites me, but as if he is being forced, to get in the van.

“So. How's Tanner then Sophie?” Nash says.

“Yeah, how was your little date thing?” Hayes asks naively.

“It was good... He's a cool guy.” I don't know what to say at this point.

“You a thing then?” Nash says whilst pulling out on to the main road.

“Noooo.” I say, then remember he saw the kiss. Oh god. I try to avoid the question but then guess I have to answer, as Nash is glaring at me in the mirror. What's his problem?
