Christmas morning hot chocolate was waiting for me in the kitchen area.

Our house attendant lady was very sweet to us.Tiffany put on the  TV and we watched Korean Christmas TV and then she asked if I wanted to see SM artist together. On the screen were people I had all seen before and some brand new faces.Tiffany filled me in on who was who and small trivia. It was an SM tradition to bring together the label's singing talent for a very jolly and sparkle, sparkle Christmas video to a new and original song. Many of them were paired together except one girl who got solo singing lines and pretty close-ups. SM's sweetheart and Lee So- Man's favorite, Boa. Boa at the age of 12 had followed her brother to some dance audition at SM and well they didn't want him, they wanted her. Lee So Man personally scooped her up and decided to make her a pop star. Luckily she could sing and dance well.Britney and Christina had blown up in the US and across the world so SM quickly wanted to drop their own pop princess. At 14 she dropped out of school and got sent to Japan by herself to promote her first album and then return to Korea. It was successful and she sold around a million in Japan and 600k in Korea.

She did about 9 music videos in 2000 and 2001 and worked very hard but it was worth it cause she became a superstar. At SM's next open auditions tons and tons of little girls specifically auditioned to be the next Boa.The trainers and coaches had told the little girls to keep dancing and singing and maybe it could happen. However, the company faced some difficulties with their female acts.MILK was a girlgroup that was made up of 4 young teens.Their debut song "Come to me" did ok but the follow-up songs got nowhere and the whole group got scrapped leaving only one girl behind.Isak and Jiyeon a pop duo was another failure and a financial loss to SM.

A few months later SM's super successful girlgroup S.E.S officially broke up and went their separate ways to different companies, though Shoo stayed at SM a bit longer. So all the girls that had auditioned with dreams of becoming a solo pop princess were now shuffled into a room and told that they were instead going to debut in a girl group. With 12 members!! I can't Imagine the disappointment some of them must have felt. Some dropped out but most of them stayed.

I think a few stayed in hope that they would change their minds and debut a solo artist after all. A large group had been done before with Super Junior who debuted with 12 members in 2005 and then they added Kyhyun in 2006 making it 13.SM Entertainment had a weird technique of feeding the new fish before the old fish had died.A new DVD was put in and a music video of TVXQ and Super Junior from the previous year started. TVXQ obviously was very popular and this video was set up to boost the newly debuted boyband Super Junior. So what was missing in the music video for "Show me your love"? Blackbeat. SM's other boyband who debuted a year earlier than TVXQ but who now ended up in their shadow.

I saw them around the hallways and they were involved with the SM collab albums but everybody knew they were dying. In the encore (bridge)Donghae shows up with his soft tenor voice and knocks me out. He was the cutie from the hallway. All the other guys looked ugly to me. Haha.Well maybe not Heechul and Kangin they were also handsome. But it all made me think I guess there is a lot of competition inside the company as well. Just because you debut it doesn't mean you will succeed. Your group will not be around for long if it doesn't bring in cash.

Twice they had failed with a new "Boa" .The first ,Dana ended up in fairly unknown girlgroup The Grace. The other Zhang Li Yin was from China and after training for a short stint with the other rookies it was decided she would go back to her country and become a "Chinese Boa". She did ok, Some might call her hit "Timeless" a one-hit wonder."The Grace" debuted in 2005 and was supposed to be the female counteract to TVXQ only they never sold anywhere near the same amount of singles or albums.

The buzz and need for a new girlgroup and a successful female act got bigger and bigger. Another TVXQ music video came on"Magic Castle". They were standing there looking flirty to the camera. I was about to turn it off when a familiar face appeared.
