It was about quarter past eight when the alarm clock on the nightstand next to Roxanne's bed rang. The tired young woman groaned in annoyance before she grabbed the poor object and threw it at the other side of the room. After the device made a thud it's screen broke into a million pieces and stopped working. Once Roxanne heard the thud and the sound of glass scattering she jumped out of the bed with widened eyes. Slowly but reluctantly she turned her head only for her eyes to meet the broken alarm clock. The girl hesitantly got out of bed and approached the device. She kneeled down, she took the device in her hands and examined it. Her gaze fell upon the time the clock showed. Her eyes widened once more.
"I'm late! And I have to get the clock to be fixed" she cried and rushed to get ready for the day.
The first thing Roxanne did was taking a shower. She rushed to the bathroom and quickly stripped off herself. It was a miracle how she didn't trip off due to her rush. After taking a quick shower the young lady got out of the bathroom half naked since her towel was clumsily wrapped around her and with her hair wet. She took a glance at the wall clock in the kitchen and as she realized that she didn't have time to dry her hair she decided that it was a wind-hair-drying day. She rushed then to her bedroom and picked the first outfit in front of her.
After her rush to get ready the poor girl grabbed the smashed alarm clock, grabbed her bag and coat and got out of the house. Once she slammed the door closed she noticed that something was missing. Roxanne searched her pockets and bag only to notice that she had forgotten her keys.
"Damn it! Why me!?" She complained.
The girl just shrugged it off thinking that it wasn't a matter that should be solved now and started walking with a fast pace towards the closest device shop.
Once she stepped into the shop she searched for the clerk. As soon as she spotted him she approached the counter. Unfortunately she had to wait in a long queue of unpleased customers. She sighed knowing she had to wait for her turn to come.
Almost an hour had passed when Roxanne finally reached the counter.
"Excuse me" she began talking to the clerk "could you fix this alarm clock?" She asked the clerk.
The clerk examined the broken device once the young woman placed it on the counter.
"It has been seriously damaged. It'll take one or two weeks to fix it" the clerk replied.
This caught Roxanne off guard.
"What!? Two weeks!?"
The clerk nodded with an expression that read: 'we can't do nothing about it'. Roxanne sighed for the second time and after she nodded in understanding she got out of the shop.
The next thing she did was to call a locksmith. The poor girl considered her luck today once she learned that her house lock would take a whole day to be changed. She hang up the phone and headed to the grocery's for her daily shopping.
Roxanne found a huge struggle in the grocery's as well. Most products she needed were already out of stock and the shop was crowded. As if this wasn't enough she argued with an old grumpy lady for the last package of cerial that was left.
"This day can't get any worse" she mumbled once she got out of the shop.
In order to take her mind off of the events on that day Roxanne decided to have lunch at a nearby park. The young woman sat on a bench, she took out the croissants she bought and started eating them while she observed the scenery of the park. Her day got even worse once all the couples in the city decided to take a walk in that park (at least that was what it seemed like to her). The couples. It was her worst thing to watch while she lived in her miserable single life wondering if she will ever fall in love. The girl sighed for the third time in the day and once the sun started to set she got up and with a heavy heart she walked towards the bar she worked.
It was already late when Roxanne arrived at the bar. As expected her boss didn't lose a chance to scold her.
"You're late!" Roxanne's boss yelled at her.
"I'm sorry ma'am. It won't happen again" the girl tried to apologize.
"There won't be consequences since its the first time. Next time I'll have you wash the dishes. Got it?"
Roxanne nodded at the words of her boss and went straight to work.
The fact that her boss didn't punish her for being late could be considered as the luckiest part of the day. She considered her self luckier once she saw a certain man entering the bar.
