Flashback : A Month Ago
" Thank YOU for taking so much trouble to get me my meal. I really appreciate it... Take some painkillers and the pain should be better by tomorrow. ", Saanchi said to the Abhay as he left her house.
She closed the door behind him even though her thoughts were still lingering on this stranger.
" He looked like he had a bad day... "
Opening the Uber Eats app, she found Abhay's profile and decided to leave a heartfelt comment and a 5-star rating.
" I hope this makes things a little better for you... ", Saanchi smiled while she typed in some nice words.
She submitted the review and put away her phone.
Right then, the front door opened and in came Anurag. Saanchi got excited as she saw her brother after months and quickly embraced him in a hug.
" I'm so sorry I wasn't home to welcome you today. ", Anurag said.
" It's fine. I know you're a busy married man, Anurag Bhaiya. But I am angry that you didn't attend my school graduation. I really hoped you would come but you didn't... You know you're my only family left. ", Saanchi replied back and her brother wrapped her up in a cozy hug.
" I'm sorry Saanchi... ", he repeated another apology. She missed her brother so much that she decided not to waste any time being angry at him.
Saanchi gave in quickly and the brother sister duo went into his kitchen to continue chatting.
Anurag carefully unpacked the food that was just delivered and sneakily pulled out a small vile from his pockets.
" I'm so excited about staying here with you permanently! I already looked up a bunch of colleges near by. I will start applying soon! ", Saanchi discussed her future plans but she didn't notice her brother emptying out the medicine in her food.
" That sounds amazing but you haven't eaten anything since morning. Here, have this. ", Anurag pushed the warm pizza towards her and she quickly picked up a slice.
Unassuming of anything sinister, she started gulping down on the food.
Soon enough, Saanchi felt her head feel heavy and she passed out on the floor. The plate in her hands crashing into hundreds of pieces around her.
Anurag laughed as he picked up his unconscious sister and laid her on the spare bedroom.
" Sorry behna... It's nothing personal, but you need to suffer so that I can get what I want. ", he said in a seemingly indifferent voice and brought out an entire box of medical supply.
Cautiously, he pulled out small viles of medicine and syringes. While Saanchi laid unconscious, her brother injected even more medicine in her body.
---
Saanchi woke up after a couple days.
The affects of those medicine has had a major toll on her body. As she tried to put a step down the bed and stand up, she felt the entire room spinning.
" What... happened... to me? ", she spoke but her words were all mumbled up.
Her stomach was burning from intense hunger so she forced herself to get up and make way to the kitchen. Her steps faltered but she managed to get to the pantry.
" I need... food... ", Saanchi looked through the entire place and made a mess all over the kitchen. Amidst all the cooking material, she found a cereal box and pulled it out.
Her legs gave away so she sat on the ground and started eating fistfuls of dry cereal. Even though the cereal itself was tasteless and rough, it felt like heaven to her.
Saanchi accidentally choked on a few pieces of the cereal and looked around desperately for a drink, but before she could reach the bottle, Shalini stormed in and seized Saanchi by her hair.
" How dare you make a mess in my kitchen, you little bitch! ", Shalini screamed. The situation escalated as she dragged Saanchi out of the kitchen. The verbal assault turned physical as Shalini kicked her while Saanchi pleaded for mercy.
Anurag entered the scene and Shalini stopped her attack for a moment. Saanchi assumed now that her brother is here, he could save her.
" Brother, please! Help me! ", Saanchi pleaded, extending her hands to him.
However, much against Saanchi's expectations, Anurag just smiled.
" This is our house Saanchi. She is my wife and she can do whatever she wants. ", he said, nonchalantly.
" You tell him, dear. ", Shalini added.
" Hit her all you want but we do need to keep her alive, so be careful. ", Anurag replied before walking in his bedroom, while Saanchi watched.
The weight of those words hung in the air, leaving Saanchi in disbelief. After loosing both their parents, Anurag was all she had left. Even though she spent her entire life in a school hostel, she loved him dearly.
Slowly, the realisation that it was all one sided dawned on her and it broke her heart. It hurt more than the physical pain being inflicted on her by Shalini, at the moment.
---
Saanchi sat on her bed, unable to move because of her limbs being tied to the bed. Shalini was filling up the syringe with medicine while Anurag was preparing her hand with some numbing gel.
" Please Bhaiya. Don't do this to me. "
Anurag injected and the pain made her squeeze her eyes shut in pain. Whatever it was, made her feel drowsy, her strength slipping away.
" Anurag bhaiya. Let me go... ", Saanchi begged but Anurag didn't react at all. He moved away the hair strands from her face and smiled.
" How do I let go of my dear little sister! It's time for us to spend some time together after all these years. ", he mocked while Saanchi struggled to move away. She opened her mouth to form coherent words, but all that came out was a tangled mix of words.
Soon enough, her consciousness began to slip away but she knew there was no escape, because she is stuck in a nightmare.
