Chapter 07

Abhay returned back to his hostel after handing over the company bike back to Tejas. The entire night, he couldn't shake off the image of Saanchi's bruised face from his mind.
Every time he closed his eyes , her face haunted him even more.

The next day, he woke up tired and sleep deprived.

Abhay went to college early in the morning and decided to approach Katha. She was known for being extremely skilled in tech. Be it passing a coding exam or hacking someone's phone, everyone came to her.

Very unlike his nature, he approaches her. Abhay's presence scared Katha and she tried to run but he caught her before she could.

" Relax, I am not going to kill you. I just need your help... ", Abhay said and Katha looked up at him in suprise.

" Help? What kind of help? "

" I need information about someone. I won't be able to provide any pictures but I can tell you their names and address. ", he said.

Katha was used to hacking but it was never anything too extreme. It was mostly hacking someone's ex phones to delete chats or hack into the professor's laptop to change their grades.

She could tell what Abhay wants from her will include risk.

" I don't want to get into trouble... "

Abhay felt restless and banged his hand on the table. Katha scooted back in fear, so he calmed himself down.

" I'm sorry... Look, I'll pay you my entire fucking allowance if you want. I just need you do what I say. Can you do that Katha? "

The mention of money changed her mind instantly.

" If you insist so much, I will help you. How much you offering? ", Katha asked and Abhay cleared all the money he earned from working extra on the desk in front of her.

" I'll work overtime and pay you even more. Just do it for now. ", he added.

Katha quickly took the money.

" I need to find out everything about a man called Anurag Banerjee and his wife, Shalini Banerjee. Any records, any shady activities, anything that they might be trying to hide... "

Katha was intrigued about the couple, who are being targetted by Abhay. But she knew better than to pry more.

She simple went on her laptop.

Abhay watched her opening and closing strange websites and typing in codes and what not.

" Alright, I found out their phone numbers that were registered with their address. I'll hack into their devices and find everything we need ", Katha smirked while Abhay watched in amazement.

It was impressive yet terrifying.

Right then, Abhay heard someone call out his name. He turned to see the college student counselor, Mrs. Kapoor standing outside.

He excuse himself to go over to her.

Mrs. Kapoor looked proud as she kept her hands on his shoulder.

" Abhay, it's wonderful to see you sitting with your classmates and not isolating yourself. It looks like you have come a long way! ", she smiled.

Abhay smiled back.

" Yeah, I've been doing better. "

" I've noticed, and you're looking good. It's almost like you've found a new hope, a new purpose in life. ", Mrs. Kapoor added which made him feel a surge of emotions.

The thought of Saanchi did bring a smile to his face, but the memory of her bruised and battered appearance quickly overshadowed his joy.

He tried to keep his composure.

" Yes ma'am. I guess I have found a new hope. Now, my only goal is to keep that hope alive... ", he whispers but it loud enough for her to hear.

Mrs. Kapoor sensed an underlying meaning behind his words, but decided not to ask about it.

" It is great that you've found something to hold on to, Abhay... ", she pats his back and goes on her way.

Abhay thanks her and then anxiously turns to Katha, who was carefully reading something on the screen.

" Did you find anything? Any scandals or accidents that could ruin their lives? ", he asked but Katha shook her head to say no.

" Sorry Abhay, the couple seems clean. Their loans are clear, they pay all their taxes and there's no illegal transactions linked to them. There's not much to expose about them... ", she informed and Abhay turned away.

" ...But I did come across a family will that you might want to see. "

Abhay's turned towards the screen. The contents made his eyes widen in suprise.

" It states that the youngest daughter, Saanchi Banerjee of this family is set to inherit all the money from their parents. Oddly enough, Anurag Banerjee isn't listed as an heir because he's adopted. However, there's a catch. Until Saanchi turns 21, all her assets are in the name of the guardian, which is her brother now. "

Abhay's mind raced as he processed the crucial information. The motive behind Anurag's horrible behaviour towards Saanchi became clear.

" So, it's all about the money. He wants control over the inheritance... ", he whispers to himself. " But this does not prove that he and his wife are abusing her. I still need concrete evidence... "

" I'm sorry, I couldn't help you find what you needed. That's all I got- ", Katha apologised, Abhay stopped her.

" You did help me Katha. I wanted to find dirt on them but you just found their motive for me. This is way better than I expected. So I should thank you! ", he flashed her a smile which eased her heart. Katha was pleasantly surprised with Abhay.

Abhay quickly picked up his bag and started walking out of the classroom. Before he left, he turned to say,
" By the way, send me a print of her family will to my mail. "
