Y/N POV:
After Joel finally agreed to Henry's plan we all headed across the city to the bank, when we arrived at our destination Henry pushed open the heavy glass doors and quickly ushered us inside,
"We need to get outta sight." Joel said almost out of breath,
the running clearly taking a toll on him
"Uh... I think it's this way." Henry pointed to a hallway, leading Me, Sam and Ellie in, Joel following close behind
We all got our flashlights out as we entered the dark tunnels below the building,
Carefully making our way down the stairs, Henry stops.
"This should be it, you ready?"
Henry turns to face our group
I nod although I'm not quite sure I'm ready to go down into a tunnel that could be crawling with infected...
but I take a deep breath and grab onto Sam's hand and give it a squeeze
"Get your gun out."
Joel instructs Ellie,
she complies pulling a loaded gun from her coat pocket, earning a stern look from Joel.
Joel takes the lead down the stairs, gripping his revolver tightly in his hand,
he makes his way over to a large door before shoving it open creating a loud creek that echoed through the tunnel
I followed after Ellie keeping a gentle grip on Sam's hand pulling him close to me as we ventured into the dark tunnel.
"You see. It's empty. The plan is good."
Henry smiled confidently
"Shhh The plan is good'? We've been down here two seconds. We don't know anything." Joel stated,
with an annoyed tone
Sam squeezed my hand tightly, making me look down at him
'My legs are tired' he signed
'Piggyback ride?' I asked,
he nodded enthusiastically making me chuckle as I helped him up onto my back, making sure I didn't drop my flashlight
'Better?' I signed
'Better, thank you'
"Your dad's kind of a pessimist." Henry said to Ellie
"I'm not her dad."
"He's not my dad."
Joel and Ellie both blurted out in unison
"Just point your light forward...And be ready to run." Joel instructed,
changing the subject
After a while of walking through the dark tunnels under Kansas City we arrived at a smaller tunnel unlike the others we had been through prior,
this one was decorated with colourful drawings likely done by children. and at the end of said tunnel, the door had been decorated to look like a castle
"Cool.." I whispered under my breath as I looked around at all the different artworks that covered the walls
"Woah" I heard Ellie say as she shone her flashlight on the walls of the tunnel admiring the drawings beside me
I carefully let Sam down onto the ground sensing he wanted to take a look around at the drawings too, I smiled as I watched his face light up at the sight of the colourful artwork
He's adorable.
Sam crept over to the door that was decorated to look like a castle, going over to open it but Joel blocked him with his arm gently pushing him back "No"
Sam retreated from the door back to me, I gave him a comforting smile and intertwined my hand back in his following behind Henry and Joel as they cautiously walked through the door,
Ellie just behind us
Beyond the door was what looked like a children's playroom, there were baskets of toys and art equipment dotted around the room, and the walls were covered in bright art displays and small chairs were sat around small tables
"I heard about places like this... People went underground after outbreak day, built settlements"
Joel said,
turning off his flashlight
"What happened to them?" Ellie asked, scanning the room
I took a look around the room until My eyes landed on a whiteboard with 'house rules' written on it
Make sure doors are locked.
Ask for the password if you don't know the visitor.
No shouting or noisy play.
Run to hiding spot when you hear the alarm.
"Maybe they didn't follow the rules and they all got infected." Joel said,
Gesturing to the whiteboard.
Me, Sam and Ellie made our way over to a small blue table, while Henry and Joel checked out rest of the room
Me and Sam sat down first looking up at Ellie as she slid a toy car that was left on the table causing it to clatter onto the ground,
Sam let out a chuckle at Ellie's actions and I smiled up at her as she knelt beside me
Sam notices something on the floor and picks it up,
me and Ellie lean over his shoulder to see a comic book in his hands, as soon as I read the title a grin makes its way onto my face
"No way I love these!"
Ellie exclaims excitedly
"Me too!" I add,
admiring the comic
Ellie gestures to Sam to hand her his magic slate and she begins to write something down
'I have issues four, five, six, eleven.' she says handing back the slate to Sam
'I have five, six, eight.'
Sam scribbles down
'I've only read the ones Sam has" I add as I sign,
Excited to share a common interest with Ellie
"Ah. So cool." Ellie smiles
She begins to lean in towards me and Sam, causing my heart to speed up at her sudden closeness
"To the edge of the universe and back." she says quoting the comic, I join in giggling while she keeps a serious face
'Endure and survive'
Sam responds in ASL
Sam demonstrates the sign for endure and survive,
Ellie mirrors his actions
"Endure" She brings her thumb to her chin with a closed fist and then lowers her hand "Survive" she then raises both her hands close to her chest with a thumbs-up

me and Ellie repeat as we sign,
Sam then gives a nod of approval to Ellie indicating she signed it right
"Fuck yeah man!" she exclaims, giving me and Sam a strong high five
I was sure by now my face looked like a tomato... Due to the amount of heat, I could feel rising onto my cheeks..
"Hey, keep it down. We're not out yet." Joel snapped,
Facing towards us
"Ah, c'mon..Can we just rest here for a while? There's, like, actually shit to do here." Ellie gestured to the toys scattered all around the room
"Wouldn't be so bad to wait the light out a bit. Safer in shadows when we pop back out on the other side."
Henry suggests
Joel sighs in defeat.
"Hey,Wanna play soccer?" Ellie asks turning towards me, with a smile, gesturing to the goal across the room
"Y-yeah" I stutter,
before clearing my throat
'Soccer?' I sign to Sam,
Quickly facing away from Ellie praying she didn't notice my flushed cheeks
'Yeah!' Sam signs,
excitement shining in his eyes
Suddenly it dawned on me...
I have a crush on Ellie.
