Joel jolted awake in a panic realizing he had failed to stay awake

"Still mumbling in your sleep." Ellie pointed out,
as she stood with Joel's rifle keeping watch, as you sat beside her feet

"We woke up early. You were passed out, so we took second watch."
you explained

"You gotta wake me up if that happens you two can't do things like this."
he scolded as he quickly got to his feet

"But we can...
cause we just did."
Ellie smirked,
looking down at you

"I'm responsible for you both, okay?"

"Then don't fall asleep. we were quiet, I checked my six, we looked for tracks, we found the high ground and we kept watch. Like you taught us to. What can I say, man? We're naturals."

You let out a chuckle at Ellie's antics, earning an unamused glance from Joel

"Uh-huh." He held out his hand and Ellie returned the rifle,
and gave you and Ellie a small nod showing he appreciated what you both had done,
"Wake me up next time."

"Yes, sir." Ellie grinned, before joining you on the ground

"Told you it would be fine" she whispered into your ear
Causing your cheeks to heat up with her sudden closeness.

"Yeah.." you coughed,
quickly looking away from her

—---------------------------------

Joel fired this rifle across to the bank of the 'river of death',
Alarming nearby geese with the sudden noise

"The River of Death. Still no people." Ellie observed,
Before turning to you

"Fine." Joel sighed,
emerging from his hiding place among the trees, The snow crunching beneath his feet

You and Ellie followed behind Joel hand in hand, Ellie could tell you were nervous so she made sure to squeeze your hand to let you know you had nothing to worry about, Trying to keep you calm

But you couldn't shake the feeling something bad was going to happen..
Probably because you were about to cross a bridge over
'the river of death'

Nonetheless, the three of you slowly crossed the bridge..
With no difficulty...
Something isn't right.

Ellie began making a blowing sound with her lips.
Causing You and Joel to turn to her in confusion

"I'm learning how to whistle." she explained

"You don't know how to whistle?"
Joel asked

"Does it sound like a know how to whistle?"

"No, definitely not."
you giggled,
as you watched her struggle

"Seriously, though, how the fuck do you do that?"

"Talent."
Joel replied

"Whatever. You should teach us how to hunt." she said, changing the subject

"Huh."

"Huh', like, 'they are girls. They can't handle it."
Ellie said in her 'Joel voice'

"You can handle the shootin'. Not so sure about the dressin'."

"What's the dressin'?"
you questioned

"The part where you take the guts out."

"Ew.." you shuddered,
slowing your walking down a bit,

"Oh, yeah..Why do they call it dressing? It's like, you should call it undressing cause it is. It's like, undressing from the inside." Ellie said,
making a valid point as she fell back to walk beside you

"Still interested, though."
She dragged you towards Joel helping you catch up

Soon the sound of water running could be heard as you approached a hydropower plant.

"Dam." Ellie joked

"You're no Will Livingston." Joel teased

"Yeah, yeah, but who is..
So that made electricity?"

"Yeah. Don't ask me.
I have no clue."

"You know, you could've just made something up. We would've believed you."
you said,

walking beside Joel and Ellie,
Continuing to joke around as you traveled across the snowy terrain
