Y/N POV:
I walked beside Ellie, Sam and Henry while Joel led us through a residential area,
Cars were abandoned all over the road and the houses seemed devoid of life
"Why can't we use our lights?"
Sam signed
"He says so we don't draw attention."
Henry replied
"But no one's here?"
"I know, No one is here. No one's gonna be here because my plan worked."
Henry said being a little too loud for my liking
Sure there seemed to be none around but I had a strange feeling,
It seemed too easy...
"So much goddamn talkin." Joel complained
Ellie seemed to have noticed my anxious state, because the next thing I knew she had grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently as we continued to walk
"Thanks" I whispered,
leaning into her
I could have sworn I saw her cheeks heat up but that could just be my wishful thinking,
I don't even know if she likes girls...
Ellie cleared her throat before turning to Henry
"So, we cross the river and then what? Where ya gonna go?"
"Don't know yet."
Henry replied, with a shrug
"Well, we're goin' to Wyoming."
Ellie revealed
Earning a glare from Joel
"What? It's a huge state. It can fit three more people"
"Yeah... Maybe we just call this one a success and say our fond farewells."
Henry said,
not wanting to annoy Joel further
"No, he'll change his mind. Trust me. This is how it goes."
Ellie begins to do an impression of Joel's gruff voice.
"He's like, 'No, Ellie. Never, ever, ever happening.' And then I'm like, 'I'm gonna ask you a million more times.' And he's like—"
Suddenly Ellie got cut off by the sudden sound of gunshots hitting a nearby car
"Move! Move! Go!"
Joel grabbed me and Ellie and ushered us behind a car for cover, Henry and Sam doing the same.
Ellie POV:
"The fuck is that comin' from?!"
Henry exclaimed, catching his breath
I squeezed (Y/N)'s hand tightly, trying to comfort her as I noticed she had started to shake with fear
"Shut up." Joel ordered,
He peered out from the car to the house at the end of the road
Another shot rang out
shattering the glass on a nearby car window
Henry freaked out, grabbing Sam's hand, and attempting to make a run for it.
"What are you doin'?!"
Joel yelled shocked by Henry's actions
"(Y/N) Let's get out of here!" Henry gestured for the frightened girl
But I kept a firm grip on (Y/N),
I can't let her get hurt.
"Oh shit!"
Henry exclaimed as bullets hit the car he was standing by,
Making him retreat to us dragging Sam with him
"What do we do?"
Henry asked Joel in desperation
Joel holstered his revolver before turning to me
"All right. Stay here."
He ordered
"What?"
"If you don't move, he's not gonna hit you. I'm gonna go around, try to get in the house through the back, and then I'll take him out."
"But if you go out there, he's gonna kill you."
I said, pointing out how dangerous his plan was
"It's dark and he's got shit aim. Nobody's gonna kill me."
"Then he's gonna kill us."
I was scared. Terrified even, Joel and I have grown closer the past few months and I don't know what I'd do without him,
and I was scared for (Y/N) sure I've only known her for a day or two but there's just something about her, and I want to find out what that is,
but I can't do that if she's dead.
Or if I'm dead for that matter...
"Do you trust me?"
Joel asked,
I nodded
I watched as Joel pulled out his gun again and began to crawl around the back of the car.
I could hear the loud bags of the sniper shooting at him,
I Prayed he wouldn't get hit
(Y/N)'s shaking form clung onto me, and I met her frightened gaze before wrapping my arms around her, gently rubbing her back
A feeling I haven't felt since Riley resurfaced...this is probably the worst timing for me to realize I have a crush on her..isn't it
