Panting hard, You and Ellie arrived back to the house you had left Joel,

as you descended the stairs to the basement you and Ellie both began to take off your gloves, and when you reached the bottom Ellie quickly threw the rifle down and together you crouched at Joel's side.

you quickly pulled the package that contained a syringe and two vials out And Ellie began to pull back the blanket exposing Joel's wound grimacing at the sight of it, while you shakily drew up the penicillin from one of the vials

"Ah, okay, the fuck do we put this?" you whispered,
holding the full syringe.

"Joel, where the fuck do we put this?" Ellie said louder, nudging him.

He didn't stir.

"Fuck it."
you injected right into the wound, causing Joel to groan in agony, Ellie watched uncomfortably as you slowly emptied the syringe into Joel's abdomen, before pulling the blanket back over him, touching a hand to his feverish forehead, looking over at Ellie, concern overtaking your features

Without a second thought, Ellie pulled you close wrapping her arms around your shivering frame, watching Joel over your shoulder as he lay motionless on the basement floor

"We should get some rest" Ellie whispered,
pulling away from you

"Yeah.." you nodded slowly, taking Ellie's hand and leading her towards Joel, carefully laying beside him on the mattress you both snuggled up together seeking warmth.

The morning sun shone into the basement, casting light through the frosty window.

You were unable to sleep that night, due to the fear of those men finding Joel, Ellie and you mixed with your undeniable hunger

So there you sat with Ellie in silence watching over Joel nervously, Ellie reached down and checked Joel's temperature.
His fever still hadn't broken.

You lifted his shirt and inspected his wound, still red and swollen.
Not knowing what else to do, you prepared a second dose of penicillin and injected it into his abdomen watching Joel's furrowed brow

Y/N POV:

Ellie and I ventured up into the garage deciding it might be good for us to get some fresh air and devise a plan on what to do next.

I struggled to open the garage door feeling my fatigue catching up to me, I slowly looked over my shoulder watching as Ellie picked up an empty bucket lying on the ground and scooped up some snow from outside into it placing it down for the horse.

I took a step out of the garage onto the white snow, closing my eyes as the cold air hit my face.

Suddenly the sound of birds cawing began, without warning Ellie pulled me down to a crouched position shaking me from my trance

"Stay low and don't make a sound" she ordered,
holding eye contact

I nodded, following her as she followed along the fence towards where The birds were evacuating from.

Shit.

I could feel my heart began pounding in my ears as my eyes laid on a group of armed men approaching.

The man called David we had met prior leading them...
