It was mid-afternoon when it happened, Hollie and I had set up encampment for most of the daybreak, we had eaten breakfast of course and it was now time for lunch when we had set up campground by the marine. the early afternoon in the games was windy yet so fucking hot, I felt like my skin was about to fall off of my bones and into the water. it always felt so monotonous and elongated, you could just lie underneath the scorching sun top, almost get a bronzed skin tone in the arena. Whilst some of the other tributes were trying to kill one another. Hollie and I were serenely chilling underneath the warm sun.

I crack my head over to the light-coloured teenager next to me, she's observing up to the top of the arena. I'm ravenous, it's been six hours since we last ate. I've gone for longer but the arena and all the mountaineering really takes it the hell out of you.

"We should probably get some lunch." I sit up from the grass, noticing the fact that the arena stops after a couple more trees from the stream that separates us and them.

"Where would we look?" Hollie has her eyes closed underneath the beams of sunlight, I know we seem careless doing all this but we really aren't. we're just exhausted.

"The jungle terrain bit is a good place to start. I reckon they have some birds, maybe even some actual animals if we're lucky." I suggest.

The birds in the wooded area looked really good, there were a couple of sparrows there. I even saw a robin. You almost never see a robin in the woods back at home, but sometimes you'll see a sparrow or two. To eat bird meat would be somewhat of a luxury in here. Apparently, they taste like chicken.

"Should we head down there now?" Hollie ponders.

"Yeah, yeah we can do."

We transfer up from the watercourse, I place on my coat from around my stomach, we glide through the woods at the top, trekking our way down the peak and into the silent woods, I sprint down, on the spur of the moment making my way into the rainforest to try and find a glimpse of something to eat. I don't want anyone to see us in here when we're trying to hunt.

Hollie stands behind me like some kind of animal, she looks for the berries and anything else we can use. The birds are in the trees when I reach for my hunting knives, I'm best with the knives, I can aim them perfectly without the birds noticing me at all.

I aim my shot.

It misses.

Fuck.

But it does land.

Just not where I want it.

It parks itself in the eye of one of the kids from District Eleven. The teenage girl, I can see her braids dangling from the tree with the boy on the conflicting side. The two of them are devouring on the berries as well as some kind of meat, I can't make it out from here but it hit the girl directly in her russet eyes. Her head turns.

She notices the two of us standing there, rubbernecked. "Hey! Over there!" She screams out to the boy, who snaps his head up instantly.

"Fuck!" I scream out. "Run!"

By the period we have begun to route, I feel a dart shot itself into my limb. I let out a jarring sound in a piercing pain, Hollie grabs my arm and darts me towards the clearing. Another arrow misses my foot by an inch.

We don't have time to think.

Because that's the second the dam breaks.
