Nine was extreme, so much worse than what the monstrosity ten was, still no one died, I had slaughtered both Gavon and Axel. I walked out on the stage and was reached with the resentment and bitterness of nine, both of the family's staring daggers into my soul as I had murdered both of their children. That couldn't have been easy. I understand that I felt bad of course but Gavon was coming at me with a knife and Axel was trying to kill Saron.
They would have done the same to me and been delighted about it. Killing the girl from four, one of the careers, Axel was on the verge of executing Saron when I lunged that axe into the back of his cranium and Gavon was one step off speeding up her blade into my heart if Hollie didn't stab her with a hunting knife.
But still, never easy.
Eight, seven, and six were easier. I didn't murder any of them, which was the good sign. But four out of the six of them were children, which nearly made me tear up. Three more people were killed in this District. A sister for the girl from eight symbolled the Mockingjay and whistled before she was dragged away, two people from six in the middle of the crowd signalled that as well.
But Elodie had got me like a hostage, I didn't have a choice on what to say. Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever. All that bullshit! Snow was examining me like a Hawk, if I risked refusing to comply to his rules then I knew my head was the next thing coming off of this train.
I couldn't risk my head or anyone else's head I loved coming off.
Five was hard, it was uncomfortable, but both of the parents just looked depressed. They knew their kids weren't staying alive, five rarely won. Three was also difficult but I didn't really know either of the children, apart from the girl from three that I submerged until she lost all of her oxygen, but she tried to murder both me and Hollie. It really was kill or be killed. Her parents were still sobbing so I just apologised at the end. A couple people from each district rebelled but I didn't have enough time to see.
Two and one.
Jesus.
I strode out into two with a thunderous applause. I sometimes I forget that I am a career, the only people not giving a round of applause were Brax and Xella's family. I suggest that they weren't too happy with me gouging out Xella's eyeballs or stabbing Brax through the heart. But the rest of the district seemed to be happy that a career had won the games once more.
But what did they expect? Me to be sorry I killed two cold-blooded killers. Xella and Brax deserved what was coming to them, I'm sorry but they did. They would have killed me the first chance they got, but instead I just got there first. Brax tried to strangle me to death.
The six of us had accumulated back onto the train as we were moving and heading towards the Capitol for the annual party that Snow has for each and every one of his victors. Of course, I am no different. Sitting on the train at sundown, in the morning we will be in the Capitol.
"We are stopping in the Capitol soon. Kendra and Lighting have curated your wardrobe perfectly." Elodie pours down herself some champagne and resting down onto the comfortable sofas that the Capitol had kindly provided us.
"Thank you." I acknowledged Kendra and Lighting courteously as I sat myself down next to Finnick. I applauded my hands sarcastically. "What does oh Great Snow have planned?"
"Well, it's not the Capitol without a theme." Elodie clarifies to me, I roll my eyes.
"Oh joy. What is it this time?" I rest my legs on Finnick's, who goes red in the face. I wink at him.
"To commerate the winner from District Four" Lighting looks at me, I look at him in anticipation, he accepts his superiority. "An underwater party."
"An...underwater party?" I raise an eyebrow, hesitant of what that meant.
