Caroline was throwing rocks off the roof, hitting some vape pen she found. It was blue raspberry mint ice smoothie or something. Everyday she basks in new technology, a favorite advancement is flash games.
A murder of crows joined her, she thinks they may be Lady's offspring. Most of them live around the school and that's where she laid her eggs a while ago. There were about 9 or 10 of them. She was in the process of giving them names.
"You look like a Duchess to me, you like that one?" A small crow pecked a blueberry out of her palm.
She scanned the murder for another crow to name. There was a larger one, a male. He looked to be about 25 inches tail to beak.
"You. Come here." She pointed at it. He did as he was told and hopped over. His feathers where iridescent like the others, but they were fluffed up around his head a little. It looked like a crown.
"You look like a King. How does that sound? King?" He squawked. All of Lady's children took after her, meaning they seemed to understand. Weird paranormal birds are Caroline's favorite animal.
She saw Maddie sitting at the bus stop. It was just inside the schools property. She was sitting next to a boy. She slid down the maintenance ladder to get a better look.
As she got closer, they seemed to be having a conversation. But that was impossible.
"Hey? Maddie?" She made her presence known. It was one thing to stalk the living but a fellow ghost was a new low she didn't want to reach. King followed.
Maddie turned her head. The boy spoke.
"What is it?"
Caroline looked at her with wide eyes.
"He can see you?!"
Maddie stuttered a few words. Denying that anything was wrong and ignoring Caroline. She walked to the other side of the boy and looked at his face, closely. He definitely noticed Maddie, he was looking right at her.
"And I thought I was weird. Hellooooo? Weird boy?" She snapped her fingers in front of his face. He didn't see her, but he heard the snap.
"What was that?" He looked around.
"It's nothing." Maddie insisted staring daggers at Caroline.
"Fine." Caroline stepped back and crossed her arms. Then whispered to King. "Go bother him, spare the face."
King was a natural, just like his mother. He started pecking at the boy's shoes.
"What's with this bird? Get off!" He kicked at King; he dodged beautifully. Caroline was proud.
"His names King." Caroline said casually.
Maddie told him then wondered why she said it.
"What?!"
"Simon! Just- ugh! I gotta go!" Maddie stood up and just like that it's like she was invisible to the boy, Simon, again. She walked away.
"Come on." She tapped her shoulder and King flew up onto it and she followed Maddie "Dude! He can see you?!"
"Yes! And I don't know why but he can and he's helping me figure out who killed me, okay? But you and your weird bird interrupted." She sighed deeply as she turned to face her. "Did you like, train it?"
"No, but he takes after his mother." Caroline scratched under his chin. She has a whole army of them now, oh the shenanigans she could cause. He squawked nicely.
Maddie just gave her a confused look and walked off.
She turned to King and said. "Some people..." she shook her head.
"I won't tell anyone! Don't worry!" She said annoyed.
Maddie said nothing.
"Oh we're doing the silent treatment now?! Fine!"
