I woke up from the ray of sunshine trying to blind me, I guess I forgot to close the blinds last night. I groaned and rolled over to the other side of the bed where my phone was. I checked the time and saw it was 9:30AM, I guess I got enough sleep after all.
I dragged myself out of bed and straight into the bathroom, brushed my teeth and washed my face.
My morning routine wasn't as long as people thought, all I did was brush my teeth, cleanse my face and put moisturizer on. My skin was flawless but it was never anything I did, I guess I just have my grandmother's spectacular genes.
After I was done I went back into my room, it was chilly so I decided to change my shorts into something warmer. I picked my grey Nike sweats, then I grabbed the matching hoodie in case I needed it.
My favorite thing about mornings in my grandparents house was making myself a cappuccino and drinking it on the terrace. The view was exceptional and I could never get bored with it.
The terrace watched over the beautiful beach, the white sand meeting the deep blue sea, the waves crashing down into themselves, ultimately meeting the white sand. Sometimes there were even sailboats cruising along the shoreline.
I noticed my mom and Anne in the living room and greeted them both good morning, then walked straight to the kitchen to make my precious cappuccino.
I noticed my nonna in the kitchen, she was already cooking something for thanksgiving dinner tonight.
"Boungiorno nonna" I said softly and pecked her cheek, she turned around and wrapped both arms around me pulling me into a loving hug "Boungiorno bella, how'd you sleep?" she asked and turned around to take something out of the oven.
"I slept great, what are you making?" I asked as I turned the coffee machine on.
"Macaroni and cheese, also the turkey, all the usual things" she sighed and I started grinding the beans, then placing them into the puck.
"I prefer last night's meal" I said and she smiled widely "Anche io" (Me too).
"Vuoi anche tu un cappuccino?" (Do you want a cappuccino too?) I asked and she shook her head.
I was done making my coffee and stepped outside to the terrace, it was quiet as I was the only one there. Everyone knew that this is my version of therapy, no one was allowed to interrupt me.
I sipped on my coffee, it was perfect as always. Over the years I mastered the art of making coffee, I could make almost any kind but my favorite was always the cappuccino.
It wasn't too bitter like an espresso, had just the right amount of milk and foam, it felt like a hug in a form of a beverage.
I was almost done with my coffee as my phone rang, I looked at the screen and saw it was Emily, surprising.
"Mom I'm right outside the hospital, I can't park here for too long" she said nervously before I could even say hello,
"I prefer mommy to be honest" I teased playfully,
"Alex?!" She was shocked, cute.
"Yes" I replied and she groaned loud enough for me to hear.
"I'm sorry, I hate Siri. I was trying to call my mom, I guess Siri has other plans" she sounded frustrated,
"Are you okay?" I asked,
"Yeah just a shitty morning, I will call you back later I'm sorry" she said apologetically and I nodded as if she could see me
"Okay, I hope your day gets better, bye" I said, she said goodbye as well and hung up.
This was a rather pleasant surprise, she was hilarious when she was nervous, her voice changed as she spoke in a higher tone than usual and it was just adorable.
