"Mom I'm home!" Em yelled as she opened the door for us, I can't believe she ambushed me.
"I'm in the kitchen!" Her mother responded with the same tone and Emily led me to the kitchen, she acted as if I didn't know where it was which was cute.
"Do you need help with anything?" Emi asked then pecked her mom on the cheek which I thought was adorable.
"Can you set the table please? Also what time is Alex coming?" She asked as she checked something in the oven, I guess it was the potatoes.
"I'm here, hi" I let myself be known, this was embarrassing.
Helena turned around with an apologetic smile "I'm sorry, hi honey" she came closer and leaned in for a hug which took me by surprise, the hug was warm and loving and I couldn't help but smile.
"Mom stop you're embarrassing me" Emily complained probably about the hug, maybe the "honey" part too, Helena and I just laughed.
"The food will be ready in ten minutes, can you set the table please?" Helena explained and Emily nodded.
"Can I help with anything?" I asked, leaning against the counter.
"Nope you're our guest" Helena was quick to reply.
"She's very serious when it comes to hospitality" Em teased and her mother chuckled, their interactions were light and cute, more like friends than mother and daughter.
"Alex can you help me get the plates?" Emi asked with her sweet tone, little did she know that I would do anything she could possibly ask me to.
"Em you're being rude" Helena exclaimed as she poured dressing over the salad.
"It's not my fault I'm the shortest person in the room" Her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance.
"Just show me which cabinet" half a smile on my face, she was adorable.
"This one, the top self" she pointed on the cabinet farthest to the left and I took out three cream colored plates, they were the kind of plates that looked like bowls but also looked like plates. I assume they're their special occasion plates because they were really nice and hard to reach.
"I'll put these on the table while you get the rest?" I suggested and the angel smiled at me and mouthed 'thank you'.
We finished setting the table together, the dishes were beautiful, very girly and trendy so they probably got them when they moved here.
"Where should I sit?" I asked and I noticed Em's smile grew bigger, I really didn't do anything special this time.
"Wherever you want Lex" she giggled to herself and I look at her with a puzzled expression.
"Why are you laughing?" I asked curiously, still standing next to the table.
"Nothing" she lied, the redness in her cheeks framing her.
"Obviously that's a lie" I cocked my brow in a questioning manner.
"Just have a seat please" she gestured me to sit with her hand and turned around so her back was facing me.
"Do I have something in my teeth or...?" I was confused at this point.
"No, do you want juice or water is fine?" She asked as she opened the fridge, still hiding from me.
"Water, also don't change the subject" I insisted and she shook her head.
"There is no subject to change" she finally turned around to face me, a large bottle of water in her hand.
