Olivia nudged the door open gently, but her delicate demeanor vanished as she stumbled upon Peely and Meowscles engrossed in a tic-tac-toe match in Midas's office. The sight instantly brought back memories of pure joy; this game was her all-time favorite from childhood, an irresistible pastime. Disregarding Midas, already perturbed by his two peculiar creatures, she eagerly bounded toward them, voicing her desire to join in. "Peely, Meow, mind if I jump in?"

"Can you guys just quit it?" Midas slammed his hand on the table, rising to his feet. "This is an office, not a playground. Peely and Meowscles, you both know better—follow the rules! Why this sudden disobedience? Meowscles, back to the box factory?"

Meowscles whimpered, pretending to seek refuge behind Olivia, while Peely managed a silent chuckle through his expressions.

"Come on, they were just having a bit of fun," Olivia tried to ease the tension, but her attempt wasn't well received by Midas, who shot her a cold glare.

"In my office?" He scoffed, plopping back into his chair. "Anywhere but here. Silly cat and a dumb banana."

"Hey, Midas, take it easy," Olivia said with a smile, finding his anger oddly cute. "We're planning a trip, remember? A trip without fun is no trip at all! Let Peely and Meowscles have their fun when we hit the beach."

Midas, intrigued as he knew she had a plan in mind, composed himself and looked at her curiously. "So, where are we heading?"

She shuffled over to his desk, placing a piece of paper—a map—before him, a massive smile illuminating her face. "The beach on the outskirts of my city. I've got so many memories there."

As he glanced at it, his eyes widened, unable to believe what he saw. Olivia noticed his expression, a peculiar mix of surprise and something deeper, like an old memory surfacing, though not a pleasant one. Midas's reaction turned sour, swiftly producing a different map on his tablet.

"How about we check out a different beach?" He suggested firmly. "Plenty of better options out there."

"Alright," Olivia agreed, sensing his evasion of that specific place she had pointed out. "What else do you need me to do?"

Looking up, he smiled. "What do you enjoy doing at the beach?"

Her face lit up, as if she had just received her favorite treat as a child. "I love playing volleyball, and water sports, especially jet skiing—I'm unbeatable!"

"Jet skiing, huh?" He smirked. "Got it. Your part's done; the rest's up to me. We leave early tomorrow. Main floor rendezvous."

Olivia felt a surge of excitement bubbling within her, squealing with happiness, while Midas watched her with a sense of awe. She wasn't the same person he'd recruited into the Agency. The former kleptomaniac, always irritated and curious, seemed to have vanished, replaced by a girl exuding innocence. Memories of someone close to him, someone cherished, flooded his mind.

After another typical day at the Agency, Olivia dozed off and was up early the next morning. She was the first one on the main floor, eagerly awaiting the others. Soon enough, Brutus, Maya, Meowscles, and Peely arrived, followed by Tina and Skye, visibly tired yet excited for the trip. Olivia was thrilled everyone from the Agency had gathered, but she felt a pang of disappointment—Sig and his friends hadn't received an invitation from Midas.

"I heard Sig, Hugo, and Redux might join," Tina chirped cheerfully. "Been ages since we last saw 'em."

"They're hopping aboard?" Olivia was taken aback. "How'd you find out?"

"I shot her an email," a familiar voice chimed in. It was Sig, accompanied by two others. "Hey, everyone!"

"Known for being elusive and unpredictable, I'm Hugo," the sleek figure greeted Olivia with a smile.

The man with scarred face and golden metallic arms introduced himself as Redux. "I'm grateful for this trip."

A smile escaped Olivia's lips, cheeks blushing with excitement as she realized Midas had honoured her request by inviting Sig and his friends. Just as she was lost in thoughts about the boss of the Agency, he descended the stairs, commanding attention with his regal presence, successfully drawing everyone's gaze.

"I reckon everyone's here," Midas stated, leading them outside. A boat ride awaited, ferrying them to the open waters and onto a yacht named 'Marigold.' Olivia was awestruck; it was her first glimpse of such a majestic vessel. As everyone boarded, she hesitated.

"Olivia, you coming?" Tina called from the yacht.

Shaking off her astonishment, she tried to board but found the deck slippery. Midas promptly grabbed her hand. "Watch out, you could fall."

Stunned by his quick reaction and gentle grasp, she stepped onto the yacht, still firmly holding his hand. His firm hold surprised her; it felt oddly reassuring, almost as though he was safeguarding Olivia by keeping her close. However, once she was onboard, he swiftly let go, walking away as if nothing had happened, leaving her in a daze.

Brutus briefed the crew that they'd arrive at their destination in a couple of hours, emphasizing safety protocols. Once they'd acknowledged this, they scattered across the yacht: some lounged, others gathered at the bar where Peely mixed drinks. Meanwhile, Olivia stood on deck, captivated by the passing scenery. Unbeknownst to her, Midas quietly joined her until he cleared his throat. "What's on your mind?" he inquired.

"Oh, nothing. It's been awhile since I was out in the open like this," she replied. "So, this yacht is yours, named Marigold? Why is it named after my gran?" Her curiosity piqued, wondering about the vessel named after the woman who had raised her, yet she had never mentioned Midas throughout her life.

"I told you, she was a dear friend," Midas said, smiling faintly, a smile tinged with sorrow that didn't escape Olivia's notice. Whatever bond Midas shared with her grandmother intrigued Olivia, fueling her desire to uncover their connection. She realised she needed to erase any doubts he might have about her before delving into his history with her grandmother.

The two watched the passing sunny groves, engaging in chatter about the cheerful crew which was ecstatic to leave the Agency building for a change. It had been far too long since they'd all ventured out together, and the excitement was clearly evident among them.
