After Erwin managed to defuse the situation, you reluctantly agreed to go with them. You handed over your weapons and allowed them to cuff you for the time being. Erwin was a thorough and cautious man, and given the circumstances, his distrust was understandable given your introduction hadn't exactly gone according to plan.
The violence you had inflicted on those soldiers had created a terrible first impression, and you wouldn't be surprised if some of them now held a grudge against you.
It's not like you were expecting your induction back into society to be much of a ceremonious one, but this was turning out to be pretty shit.
You had kept your mouth shut for the most part, staring down at the cold cuffs as if they had personally offended you. At least it beat acknowledging all the weird stares you got. You sat in the same cart as the boy from earlier whom you later found out was Eren. Across from you sat Levi, and the other girl from earlier, Mikasa.
You noticed that she was staring daggers into direction, and you returned the favor when it finally got under your skin.
You hadn't been introduced to the rest of the soldiers just yet, and you had a feeling you wouldn't get a warm welcome now. But from what you could gather, the blonde boy driving the cart was named Armin. There were two grayish haired kids, Jean and Connie, that rode on either side of you.
The timid girl, Sasha, avoided your gaze like the plague. The poor girl was so skittish, you were sure any sudden movement on your end would make her piss herself. Then there were four others, a short girl and a brooding brunette accompanied by a muscle man blonde and a quiet tall kid.
Despite such a large group, the squeaking of the wagon wheels was all that passed between the company. After a while, Erwin gave the order for everyone to halt and take a break.
You were allowed to stand and stretch, though you remained under close watch from Levi. His gaze was admittedly unsettling as you tried to ignore him, leaning against the side of the wagon and letting your head fall back to savor the remaining warmth of the setting sun. You had finally found the Commander at least, and being closer than ever to finding your brother made the handcuffs almost bearable.
A few feet in front of you, Erwin was engaged in conversation with some soldiers you hadn't seen yet.
"Um, s-sir?" A red headed boy approached him. "My name is Joseph, sir. I, um.., I haven't been able to find my friend since we left the forest. I was wondering if you had any reports on him?"
Erwin turned to him, "What is the name of your friend, Joseph?"
"Elijah Princeton, sir."
You straightened a little bit, thinking back to the poor boy from earlier.
