Marcus' P.O.V.
I wake up with a throbbing headache as Jay is asleep next to me. I turn the alarm off, rubbing my temple. Oh God, does it hurt. I trot to the kitchen to take a pill and drink a whole glass of water. As I jump under the shower, everything comes back to me. How Daisy left, but still cared and told Aayla to drive us, how Aayla called me a piece of shit even though she didn't know anything that happened between Daisy and I. On the other side, she's kinda right. I told her things I didn't mean to. I didn't know it would hurt her like that. Also, I can't believe I have such effect on her and that I can make her vulnerable easily. That's now what I want and that's not my aim, but I wasn't that high and she started lecturing me as if I had been her student. We have to know some boundaries.
What boundaries? We already crossed them all.
I groan and dress up as I make a coffee and I'm on the verge of passing out, so I go through my fridge to find something to eat and to prepare breakfast for Jay.
I walk in the room and he stirs.
"Hey bud, I know it's early, but we have to go."
"No, uncle, please.", he says sleepily and I sigh.
"I'm sorry, but you have to. C'mon."
I uncover him and he rubs his eyes, getting up.
As we eat bacon and cheese for breakfast, he doesn't utter a word.
"Champ, are you sick or something? Does anything hurt?", I ask him, worried, because I don't know what I'll do if he falls sick.
"No.", he replies curtly and I nod.
"Then, what is it? Why are you quiet?"
"I miss mama."
"I'm sorry about it. Did you have fun with D'Andre?"
He nods, chewing on his cheese and I take a sip of my coffee.
"Are you angry with me?"
He shakes his head.
"Who are you angry with?"
"Daisy."
"What did she do?"
"She said we'd hang out and we didn't. She lied."
"Well, she had things to do. Jay.. She.. She might have more things to do in the upcoming week.", I try to reason because I'm sure that Daisy hates my guts now and I'm sure that she won't even want to see me, yet alone Jay.
"Why?"
"She's busy. And her family lives far away and they need her."
"Okay.", he quietly says and we sit in silence.
I help him brush his teeth and dress up and we head to school.
"What are you doing with Maya?", I ask him and he shrugs.
"We watch cartoons and draw. We played puzzle yesterday."
"So, you like it here?"
He shrugs again and I sigh.
As I arrive, I see Ruth waiting for us and she gives me a disapproving look.
"What have I done now?", I ask her and she shakes her head at me.
"He's sad again. What are you doing to this child? Unbelievable."
She takes him by the hand and I rub my eyes.
I need to see Daisy. Everything has fallen down on me and I can't really find a way out. Just a week ago, my life was ordinary and dull. It wasn't exciting, but it was fine. I went to work, dealt with silly teen brats, went to the gym from time to time, had one night stands when I was in the mood for it and Daisy wasn't present for even a moment in my life. And then she appeared and turned my life upside down.
