Chapter 12: The Day of the Great Devourer

The children had brought Garmadon to their secret base, where they've been living for a few days. He was looking around at all the Serpentine books as the kids sat on the ground watching him.

"So why didn't we want to release the Great Devourer?" Aria asks "I thought the only way for my father to gain power was by causing chaos and fear."

"Yes, but the Devourer will consume everything." Garmadon tells her "It was an experiment gone wrong. The all-mighty being the Serpentine worship was created by your mother and father in their youth. It was like a pet to them, until it attacked me. Afterward, it had an unquenchable hunger, and they had to seal it away."

"So.. we shouldn't let it be released." Aria looks away "Damn it."

"We messed up," Lloyd whines

"Even if the Devourer is released, I will be able to stop it." Garmadon tells them "Don't you worry." He sighs "If I had been here I would have been able to stop you two."

"We're sorry sensei," Aria apologizes

"Yeah sorry Dad," Lloyd agrees

"There is no need to be sorry," Garmadon places his hands on their heads "I commend you both for being able to go head to head with my brother and the ninja."

"Lloyd just put on his crybaby act," Aria giggles

"Ye- hey!" Lloyd looks at her annoyed.

"Cease your fighting children," Garmadon pushes them away from each other "You're supposed to be partners."

"You should've seen him in school," Aria mutters "A total pushover."

"But then they wouldn't expect a thing from me," Lloyd explains before laughing "Boy will they regret it."

"Ay," Aria rolls her eyes

"You still have much to learn," Garmadon sighs "If only there was more time."

The two kids stopped arguing and turned to Garmadon.

"What do you mean?" Aria asks

"Let's just say, we'll be seeing your father sooner then you think." Garmadon tells her

"Really?" Aria asks excitedly

"Yes," Garmadon nods

The ground started rumbling and Garmadon gasps.

"What was that?!" Lloyd freaks out

"The ninja have failed in stopping the Devourer," Garmadon says "get down lower, hurry!"

Garmadon and the kids rushed farther down into the cellar. Only after the rumbling stopped, did Garmadon allow them to head to the surface. Around them, the trees were fallen and a clear path was shown, seemingly made by a very large being.

"That's.. a big snake." Aria says, as she stared down the path.

"Told you so," Garmadon replies

"What do we do dad?" Lloyd looks up at him "You said you can stop it right?"

"I can," Garmadon nods with a smirk "And I will achieve us something greater in the process."

The two kids look at each other confused as Garmadon began running down the path. They quickly run after him and head to Ninjago City. They arrive in the city to see the Ninja all gathered around their fallen dragon as the serpent raged on.

"What now?" Nya questions

"You can't defeat the devourer" Aria states, catching their attention.

"What are you doing here?!" Cole questions

The ninja all stand still, staring down Garmadon and the kids.

"Give me the weapons" Garmadon commands "I am the only one who can handle the power of all four weapons at once. It's the only thing that'll defeat the Devourer."

"Uh, I thought we were supposed to do everything in our power not to let him possess the weapons" Jay says worriedly

"I've ran every other scenario through my servers. It appears to be the only way" Zane tells them

"Give me the weapons" Garmadon commands "Only I can destroy it. Or prepare to watch-"

"Quit your yammering and just do it" Kai throws him the Sword of Fire "When you have a chance to make the blow, it has a weak spot near his forehead."

Everyone but Jay has given the Dark Lord their weapons.

"Uh," Jay gave him the Nunchucks of Lightning "I don't think this needs to be said, but we're gonna need these back."

"I'll do my part. You just make sure he stays in one spot," Garmadon pats Lloyd and Aria's head "you two kids take cover and watch your old man work."

"You got it dad!" Lloyd agrees

"Bye bye," Aria waves to him "beat it's ass."

"Aria!" Cole glares at her

Lloyd took Aria's hand and ran away to hide with her. Kai begins by confronting the Great Devourer alone, luring it through the street to where Cole is waiting. Cole then lures it to the billboard where Jay stands, and Jay leads it through a construction site to meet up with Zane. As Jay and Zane escape using an ice slide that Zane created.

The Devourer pursues them, but right before it could consume them, Kai and Cole swoop in on the Ultra Dragon to pick them up. Rushing to a nearby building, the Ninja see that their plan has worked; the Devourer has bitten its own tail, and with its oversized body tangled among the buildings of Ninjago City, it is completely stuck.

"We did it! Now, where's Garmadon?" Cole looks around "He's not gonna hold on for much longer"

The sky becomes engulfed by dark clouds where Garmadon is on the roof of a skyscraper.

"You are the reason evil runs through my blood. You bit me once. Now feel what it's like to be bitten back." Garmadon unleashes a purple energy as he jumps.

"Go get him, Dad!" Lloyd cheers from his and Aria's hiding spot.

"Vengeance will be mine!" Garmadon destroys the Devourer and its venom spreads throughout the city.

Lloyd and Aria peer out of hiding as Garmadon ran to them and pulled them back behind the building.

"Dad?" Lloyd looks confused

"Where are the ninja?" Garmadon asks

"Over there," Aria points them out

"Let's go," Garmadon began running thorough the alley.

The kids look back at the ninja before quickly following behind Garmadon. They made their way outside of the city and far away. They arrived back at Aria and Lloyd's hideout where Garmadon laid down the golden weapons.

"Finally," Garmadon laughs "they're mine."
