It's been two years since Master Wu had gotten lost in time, the ninja was still together but were spread across Ninjago doing various missions. A lot had changed in those few years, Ninjago and the formerly lost Kingdom of Del, were officially neighboring kingdoms. They weren't allies but were not declared enemies either. They simply coexisted.
The ninja was so focused on finding Wu, none of them were concerning themselves with neither Aria nor Lloyd. They hadn't seen the two in over 3 years now, and as they say, 'out of sight, out of mind.' Until now, when the Ninja eventually grouped up and Reika, who had been watching over Ninjago, joins them.
"You're late Reika," Kai points out as he sees her run through the door.
"Kai was late too, if it is any consolation" Zane comments.
"Typical big brother behavior," Reika sighs before continuing "Thanks for meeting me here, guys. It's been a while since we've all been under one roof."
"Yeah, so what's going on?" Cole asks.
"Well, I called you because of this," She shows them the logo she saw on the parachute.
"Lord Garmadon?" Cole questions.
Reika nods "After poking around, I've learned it's the symbol to-"
"The Sons of Garmadon. A mysterious criminal syndicate growing prominent in Ninjago City" Zane answers.
"Seventy-two hours ago, they stole a powerful relic from Cyrus Borg." Reika says "Some mask-"
Hutchins walks in "Not some mask, the Oni Mask. There are only three in existence."
"Whoa, I'm confused. How can there be three masks when you just said it's the only mask?" Jay questions.
"Not only, Jay. Oni." Nya clarifies.
"The Oni are said to be all-powerful beings, demons that predate Ninjago" Zane informs them.
"Wait, Oni?" Kai questions "Haven't we heard that term before?"
"We have," Nya nods "when we went in the past with Sensei Wu, Aria's mother Layla called herself an Oni."
"Each mask embodies one of the three Oni warlords." Hutchins explains "If all three masks are united, whomever owns them will wield tremendous power."
"Ninja, this is Mr. Hutchins." Reika introduces "Master at Arms and Counsel to the Royal Family of Ninjago."
"Let me guess, they have an Oni Mask too" Kai says.
"Two? Now there's two?" Jay questions and Nya covers his mouth.
"The Emperor and Empress are receiving a very important guest from the Del kingdom," Hutchins tells them "It's a grand spectacle in hopes we can forge an alliance with them, considering the past."
"Woah, hold on a minute." Kai steps forward "We're attempting to become allies with Del?"
"Del, as in the kingdom run by a tyrant?" Cole questions "My cousin Aria?"
"Wow you guys have gotten really slow," Reika comments "Yes that one."
Kai looks at her "Bit-"
"We haven't seen Aria and Lloyd in years," Zane turns to the others "perhaps they've changed?"
"I doubt it," Kai says.
"The royal family are worried the Sons of Garmadon may try to steal the mask during the visit." Hutchins explains ""We could use your assistance, that is, if you can keep a low profile."
"We are Ninja, no one will know we are there." Zane tells him.
"Yeah, and I'm interested to see how the two 'terrors' have grown." Kai comments.
