"Congratulations, Cadets. You've successfully completed your training and recruitment, making you one of our newest imperial officers. After receiving your assignment, proceed to the hangar bay and approach your officer for debriefing. That is all. Long live the Empire."

The officers gave us our datapad, which assigned us to our ships following the graduation ceremony. Some of us were assigned based on our performance during the academy. While the unlucky ones are assigned to low-tier jobs such as cargo haulers sending equipment and never to the front lines, the lucky or useful ones are assigned to Star Destroyers fighting in the front line, which may speed up their promotions to the higher-ups.

It appears that I was supposed to meet the captain, who is in charge of overseeing naval recruitment, in his office for a debriefing after the officer handed me my datapad. I chose to ignore these officers who were depressed and those who were rejoicing in their accomplishments as I continued on my way to the captain's office.

I passed a window that overlooked the facility's exterior, where numerous shuttles were leaving and the rising sun, on my way to the office. Nothing about this world, with its breathtaking surroundings, interests me.

"Ensign Kodo, reporting for debrief." As I walked into the captain's office, he was conversing with his other officers who had arrived there per his instructions and had since left to give us some room.

"Well, Ensign Kodo, I assume the graduation ceremony went well." The captain got up and approached his table. "Yes, sir, the ceremony went as planned, and according to the datapad, you told me I needed to be briefed by you."

The captain was examining the datapad that I was handing him, so while he was busy, I took some time to look around at the paintings and show interest in a few of them.

"That is accurate, Ensign. During your time in the academy, you attracted my attention as a potential officer. Why would someone like you work in a low-paying position like hauling cargo?" I was momentarily perplexed as the captain explained his reasoning, leading me to wonder why I had been there.

"I am appointing you as my first officer on board my ship and promoting you to the rank of Lieutenant based on your academic performance and reputation at the academy. Congratulation...Lieutenant."

"Thank you, Sir." On the outside, I might have reacted quietly, but on the inside, I was thrilled, and all I could manage to say was thank you. The captain told me that I would have to go to hangar bay 19 and tell the officer why he was there before boarding the shuttle to his ship, as he removed my ensign's insignia and replaced it with a lieutenant's.

"I can tell you're interested in some of my paintings based on how you looked at them earlier." I nod in admiration for the artwork's elegance and am fascinated by the sculpture that the captain enjoyed making as a hobby, including the small figures.

I was about to leave his office until. "I would advise you to read the ship specifications before you go because, given your personality, you might grasp the ship before you even interact with it." I chose to read the ship specifications on the datapad he handed me as I was heading to the hangar bay.

The ship I was assigned, the Renaissance, was an old Republic Venator II class that had undergone extensive modern technology overhauls and upgrades. To increase its firepower, the heavy turbolaser turret of the DBY-827 was replaced with a heavy quad turbolaser, and the ship's hull was greatly improved.

Upon reaching the hangar bay, I was greeted by the officer responsible for briefing every ensign assigned to the ship. I was greeted with a salute and was briefed that as soon as I boarded the ship, I had to go straight to the bridge to make sure the crew members had made sure the system was stable and prepared for battle.

A few Ensigns from my class greeted me when I boarded the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. They were shocked to see that I was wearing a Lieutenant insignia and were going to call me out when the pilot announced that play time was over and we were heading out. We were told to be quiet and get ready for the next assignment on the vessel.

Along the way, stormtroopers assigned to guard me escorted me towards the bridge upon our arrival towards the ship Renaissance and land towards the ship hangar bay as the shuttle door opened, directing each ensign towards the designated group on board.

As I arrived at the bridge, I saw that the crew was very busy making sure every system was working. An ensign who had just finished inspecting her side of the weapons showed me her datapad as evidence that her inspection was finished.

While completing a system-wide check, I made my way around the bridge to make sure every system was in working order. This also involved confirming with the engineering group, who informed me that the engine and hyperdrive were both working.

I was told by a crew member that the captain, along with every member of staff and supply, is safely on board. I then give the bridge the order to close the hangar bay so that I can get ready to launch the ship from the space station docking above the planet Carida.

We release the docks and reverse impulse power with the stationmaster's permission to depart from the space station. The captain thanks me for stepping up to lead while he was away and expediting the station's departure as he approaches the bridge.

As we get ready to enter hyperspace, our ship lines up with the hyperline at the command. We launch out of Carida and head toward the location that the captain has been given orders to go to.

The captain gives me a briefing on the operation, explaining that it is our first attempt to rescue imperial personnel from a recent ambush. The admiral is crucial to the operation and possesses the information we need to give to imperial intelligence.

Consequently, this mission will guarantee galactic order and reorient the civil war.
