THIRD PERSON POV:)
The court session passed uneventfully, with Vedanti and Abhirath addressing the concerns of their people. But the tension between them was palpable, and it weighed heavily on Vedanti's mind. She performed her duties with grace.
Later, as evening approached, the family gathered in the royal dining room for dinner. Traditionally, Vedanti would sit next to Abhirath on the queen's chair, but today she chose a different seat, positioning herself next to the king's mother. Her decision did not go unnoticed.
King Vishwanath, Abhirath's father and the former king, roared in anger, "Who told you to sit there, Vedanti?"
Vedanti replied calmly, though her heart pounded in her chest, "No one, Father. I just don't think that place is mine now."
King Vishwanath stood up, his face stern, and walked over to Vedanti. He took her hand gently but firmly, making her stand. Then, to everyone's shock, he made Abhirath stand from the head chair at the table and seated Vedanti there instead.
Everyone's eyes widened in surprise, and they all stood up from their places, the tension in the room palpable. Trupti, who had just returned from the kitchen with the servants bringing food, looked confused and concerned. "Vedanti, why are you sitting there?" she asked, her voice trembling.
King Vishwanath's voice was dangerously low as he declared, "Vedanti is Queen, and will always be, the top authority in this kingdom, no matter how many wives you marry, Abhirath." He glared at Abhirath, his eyes hard.
Then, turning to Trupti, he added, "Vedanti is younger than you, but she is the queen. You all better respect her, especially your family." He emphasized the word "family," his gaze piercing.
Trupti shivered, her face paling under the stern gaze of her father-in-law. King Vishwanath had always been protective of Vedanti from the day she entered the kingdom as Abhirath's wife.
Queen Mother, Abhirath's grandmother, intervened, her voice soothing, "Please calm down, Vishwanath."
Trupti shivered under his stern gaze, clearly intimidated. Vishwanath was fiercely protective of Vedanti from the day she entered the kingdom as Abhirath's wife.
"Please, calm down, Vishwanath," Abhirath's grandmother, the dowager queen, said soothingly.
Abhirath moved towards Trupti, who was visibly shaken, and guided her to sit beside his mother. He then took his place beside his father, his expression unreadable. As they began eating, a servant interrupted, asking for the key to the grocery storage from Trupti. This unusual request puzzled everyone.
Vedanti spoke up confidently, "I have decided to give all palace household work to Trupti. As Abhirath's wife, this is her right. She didn't ask for it, but as a queen, I should not show any bias in my work." She gave her father a look filled with puppy- eyes, adding, "This is my final decision."
King Vishwanath, disappointed, hung his head, and even Queen Mother seemed displeased with Vedanti's decision. Abhirath and his grandparents silently observed the unfolding situation, their expressions inscrutable.
Trupti, however, smiled a little, grateful for Vedanti's gesture. "Thank you, Vedanti," she murmured.
As dinner continued, the atmosphere remained tense. Vedanti felt the weight of her decisions pressing down on her. She had made a choice to delegate the household duties to Trupti, not out of kindness, but to maintain a sense of fairness and to distance herself from Abhirath.
