The cool night air brushed against my skin as I lay on the palace terrace, gazing up at the stars. It was a peaceful evening, and the kids—Raj, Abhishake, and little Chavi—had long since fallen asleep beside me, their soft breathing mingling with the quiet sounds of the night. The sky was clear, dotted with a thousand stars, but my mind wasn't at ease. Abhirath's words from earlier still lingered, echoing in my heart.

It had been days since I read his diary, since I found out just how deeply he loved me. And yet, we hadn't spoken about it. The distance between us was still there, unspoken, but I felt it shrinking with each passing day. The way he looked at me now, the way his eyes seemed to seek me out whenever I entered a room—it was all different, charged with an intensity I didn't know how to handle.

As I lay there, trying to calm the storm in my mind, I suddenly heard a sound. A rustling, faint but unmistakable. My body tensed instantly, instinctively moving to shield the children. My heart raced, fear flooding my veins as I listened carefully, scanning the terrace for any sign of danger.

Then, I saw him.

Abhirath.

Relief washed over me like a wave, and I exhaled, my body relaxing slightly. But when our eyes met, everything froze. There was something in his gaze, something dark and intense, pulling me in like a magnet. For a moment, the world around us disappeared—the palace, the stars, everything—and it was just him and me, locked in that charged stare.

But suddenly, his expression shifted. His eyes widened, and before I could process what was happening, he was hurtling toward me.

"Abhirath?" I gasped, grabbing his shoulders as he collapsed into me. "What's going on?"

But then I felt it—blood. His shirt was damp, sticky, and when I looked down, my heart stopped. There was a deep red stain spreading across his chest, seeping through his clothes.

"No!" I panicked, my breath catching in my throat. "What happened? Who did this?"

Before he could answer, soldiers rushed onto the terrace, weapons drawn, the tension thick in the air. They must have thought someone was trying to invade the palace, and one of them aimed an arrow at Me, ready to shoot.

In that split second, Abhirath threw himself in front of me, taking the arrow on his bare arm without hesitation. He winced, gritting his teeth, but he didn't flinch.

"Abhirath!" I screamed, feeling my legs give way. He saved me—again. One second later, and I could've been the one struck by that arrow.

He looked at me then, his face pale but determined, his eyes blazing with something raw and fierce. "You're... safe," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

My heart felt like it was being squeezed in a vice. Words wouldn't come. I couldn't breathe. All I could see was him, protecting me, shielding me with his own body, and in that moment, I realized just how much he meant to me.

The kids had woken up by now, and Raj and Abhishake were wide-eyed, fear written across their faces. Chavi was trembling in my arms, her little hands clutching at me as though I were her lifeline. I could barely think, barely move, but somehow I gathered myself enough to carry them to my chamber, all the while whispering reassurances I wasn't sure I believed myself.
