Abhirath pov :)
As I passed by the exercise chamber, I couldn't help but stop. The scene before me was like something out of a dream, a moment of pure bliss that I'd craved more than I cared to admit. Vedanti—my queen—was trying, and I mean really trying, to do her morning exercises with Bunny and Raj, her two little companions. The soft morning glow fell upon her face, highlighting her beauty, but what caught me the most were her chubby cheeks. God, I wanted to pull them so badly, just to see her reaction.
But of course, as usual, Abhishek was being his mischievous self. He kept tugging at Raj's leg or shaking Vedanti's mat while their eyes were closed, as if he couldn't let them have a moment of peace. Their faces showed they were about to scold him when Abhishek, sensing the danger, bolted toward me. I leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, just watching the scene unfold with amusement.
"Baba! Save me!" he cried, hiding behind my legs like I was his fortress.
Vedanti, however, wasn't having it. Marching toward us, she scooped him up into her arms and gave him a playful spank on his little bottom. "Next time you disturb us, Abhi, I'm going to punish you so bad," she said, narrowing her eyes.
Abhishek immediately turned on the puppy-dog eyes, blinking up at her with exaggerated innocence. I chuckled under my breath—he definitely got that from me.
While Vedanti was busy handling Abhi, I felt Raj's gaze on me. As soon as I looked down at him, he quickly looked away, but I wasn't about to let it slide. "Raj, come here," I said, pulling him into my arms. "What's on your mind, hmm?"
He leaned in close, as if we were sharing a royal secret. "Not now, Baba... or Mommy will know," he whispered, eyes wide like he was holding the kingdom's most classified information. I raised a brow, wondering what was going on in that little head of his, but before I could ask further, one of the royal helpers entered the chamber, looking nervous.
Vedanti put Abhishek down to listen to her, but not before Abhi started pleading, "No, no, no, put me on the floor!" Clearly, he wasn't ready for whatever lecture was coming.
The helper fidgeted with her fingers, hesitant, before finally speaking up. "Your Majesty, Prince Abhishek has been telling everyone in the palace that my husband is a ghost. And, well, people are starting to believe it," she explained, her voice trembling slightly.
Vedanti's eyes went wide in disbelief, and I glanced over at Abhi, who was now hiding behind a chair like he'd just been caught in the act. Raj, meanwhile, placed his hand on his head dramatically, rolling his eyes. "Maasa, I told Abhi not to say anything, but..." He trailed off, giving his brother a look.
Vedanti, biting her lip to keep from laughing, crouched down to Abhi's level. "Abhishek, sweetie, what did you do?" she asked, trying to sound stern but failing miserably as a grin tugged at the corners of her lips.
Abhi peeked out from behind the chair, looking innocent as ever. "Momsa, I saw a soldier! He was blowing smoke out of his mouth and moving like a ghost! I got scared... so I told everyone!"
The royal helper looked at me, and then Vedanti, still unsure. Vedanti sighed, her amusement fading as she shook her head, the picture of exasperated grace. "Tell your husband to stop smoking in the palace, and I'll have Kavya clear up the misunderstanding before half the kingdom thinks we're haunted."
