A few mornings later I woke up beside Charles.
I remembered going to sleep, him with an arm flung around my waist as his legs tangled with mine but somehow I had now ended up on the right side of the bed, blankets pulled tightly around my shoulders while he lay on the left side, skin exposed.

He'd gotten into the habit of pulling me into his lap whenever he got a free moment and had time to sit and watch a tv show with me, or gripping my hand whenever I was with him in his office and one of his guys happened to walk in to update him on a situation, Even pulling me into his arms in bed at night where it'd stay until ultimately one of us fell asleep.

And whenever I have to spend the day with Joe or susannah, he'd check that things hadn't gone south that day, listening to me as I rambled on about the things Susannah and I had done, usually including baking and dancing around jokingly.

Of course, he wasn't always the best at explaining his feelings. These acts were all a sign of protection, it was Charles showing me that he had my back without actually having to say that as well as a sign of dominance and while we fell together well, there was a constant fight for power between the two us.

I wasn't willing to abide and listen and Charles had learned to respect that, just as I had to respect that he was a busy person and usually couldn't stick around for long periods of time and was often rushed off for work.

It was almost like the day of the threats on the phone had unleashed something else. Seeing Eva so scared and vulnerable all at once was an image that would never leave Charles, he even wondered if she was scared of him but decided to push that thought out for his own sanity.

I almost forgot about the fact he was searching to find who was sending the threats. Key word almost. He never forgot, not for a single second, things were quiet for a while but it never meant they'd stay that way.

I ran my fingers up and down his arm until he woke up and I then asked a question that had been playing on my mind since Susannah had asked me all those days ago, "So, because you got me the ring, does that mean that we can have a proper wedding?"

"Good morning to you too." Charles replied quietly, his eyes still screwed shut as he tried to adjust to the light.

Nonetheless he moves onto his side so that he could see me smiling from ear to ear, white sheets pulled up above my bare torso. He smiles softly. "Do you want one?"

I nodded, "I mean it'd feel more official, well either a wedding or a dog.. I've missed Pierre's."

He chuckled at that, "I've never thought about a wedding before."

"It'd be nice!" I try to convince him, using the hand with the diamond ring on it to push my hair behind my ears. "We could invite your whole family, and my dad can come and Pierre can be your best man."

He felt his heartbeat pick up when he thought about it. "You can get all dressed up in a nice dress and I can wear one of those highly uncomfortable suits." He laughs as if he doesn't wear suits pretty much on a daily basis.

"There'd probably be a lot of dancing and food, lots of food." I stare dreamily at him, eyes filled with adoration. "Then afterwards, we'll go somewhere nice like Italy or the Maldives."

He smirks and rolls on top of me, lips ghosting over mine ever so slightly. "Maybe we can go to Rome too, I know how badly you want to see the colosseum, Mon Cheri."

"Rome sounds lovely." I was on cloud nine, the angels practically singing as he pressed light, feathery kisses down my neck, hands trailing down my body.

"Then maybe Bora Bora, I heard that's a popular honeymoon place." He suggests, throwing ideas out like sweet nothings, "How does that sound?"

"Perfect." Especially for someone who's never thought about a wedding before.

We went on about our day as normal, today he had this conference thingy going on in central Monaco and so I decided it would be a good day to start working in the garden.

My father used to tell me stories about my mother and how she used to grow a lot of flowers and vegetables and so I've decided I want to do the same and I purchased a greenhouse last week which Charles was thrilled to help me put up.

( We weren't on speaking terms and I've never seen him so annoyed )

But that's in the past, and the sooner I get growing some carrots the better, but by the time I'd carried all of the plant pots out there from the house I was knackered, "This is tiring you know." I told Joe who also helped me.

"Yeah, don't know what you were thinking." He replied, Joe isn't one of Charles' best friends or anything of that magnitude he's just the best security guard he has. And I mean, he's nice enough.

"I usually don't think." I merely responded as we reached the house again, locking the garden gates behind us and strolling on into the house, "The garden gloves are pretty cute though."

"Hm don't know about that." He replied looking at my green flowery gloves to which I shrugged, he has a pretty dry sense of humour.

"Evangeline! Eva! I'm home!" Charles called out which wasn't common, usually he'd come home and try to scare me or something.

I furrowed my brows and as did Joe, both of us as equally confused in this mannerism change of Charles, "Charles?" I called out, we both walked to the main entrance of the house to see him and that's when I realised why he called out to us.

"Oh my god!" I squealed, my hands flew to my mouth, Charles was stood there at the door with Arthur and the tiniest puppy I've ever seen in my life, "Arthur you didn't tell me you were getting a dog!" I gasped going closer to it.

They both laughed at me as I cooed at the puppy, "Surprise Mon Cheri..." Charles then whispered to me and I profusely cried holding the tiny thing.

"Oh my god, oh my god." I kept repeating holding the puppy up to my face, a tiny golden doodle. When I mentioned a dog to Charles this morning I could imagine him wanting some huge like protective dog, but this fluff ball was exactly my thoughts, "You didn't have a conference did you." I asked Charles sobbing of happiness.

"Nope." He shook his head laughing at my antics

Arthur grabbed his wallet from his pocket and passed it to Charles, it didn't take much to guess that they'd bet on whether I'd cry or not and Charles won, "Thank you so much, thank you so much." I wept.

"What are you gonna name him Eva?" Arthur asked me, now that was a good question, because I had no flipping clue.

"Looks like a little bear to me." Susannah commented, I had no idea when she joined us my eye sight was blurry behind the tears.

"Bear, I like that." I smiled holding the dog to my chest, in that moment, I'd never been happier
