July 8th:
"You know I feel bad for your maman." I muttered to Charles as we laid in bed, my head resting on his chest gently.
"Why's that?"
"Well, she has three boys. That's gotta be difficult you know?" Charles only laughed at that, finding the statement amusing.
"It's not as bad as you think," he ran his fingers through my hair, "Plus, it's good for the business. She has three boys to pass it down to, god forbid."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What's the difference if she passed it onto a daughter? I mean I technically run half of the business now and I'm female."
I really don't provide much though, in fact I don't do anything, I haven't attended a meeting, I haven't made a single deal, I don't even converse with investors. Charles does it all.
"There's nothing wrong with it," he replied "My father was always funny about it though, a man of the past."
I nodded looking out at the view opposite, our bedroom had the most splendid view of the beach, palm trees swaying gently in the light breeze, "Do you want kids?" I asked him slowly, like the words took a while to leave my lips.
Charles smiled to himself, "Yeah, I've always wanted them, two maybe three, my hair and your blue eyes," he admitted "I could always see myself with boys but I'd love a girl, I'd just be clueless though."
"You've thought about having kids with me?" I asked him, the realisation of what he'd just confessed hitting me suddenly.
"Well yeah, of course," he smiled "I mean not soon, I think I've got some time left in the business before we pass it on to another Leclerc."
I'm not sure I'd want to pass this shit onto any kids
Today is our twenty sixth day in Greece and we haven't been apart from eachother for more than an hour, if it was anyone else I would have gone insane by now, but I just couldn't get bored of Charles.
Not even if I tried.
"I think I'd like to be properly married before any further discussion of children." I reminded him, as he grabbed my left hand and my diamond ring which essentially acted as a wedding and engagement ring in one.
"Do you want a big wedding?" He asked me, I knew that no matter what he wanted he'd adapt it to what I asked for. I'd heard him discussing with Joris that this wedding was my day and I could do it how I wanted.
We'd talked about a wedding before, previously yeah that is what I wanted. Big. Everyone i knew there celebrating us but due to recent events I didn't want anything like that
I shook my head, "Quite the opposite actually," I admitted, the whole wedding talk had been on pause whilst the current events "I like small, intimate, just us. Something that doesn't feel forced like the contact signing did."
"I like that."
I took a back foot then, "If you wanted to invite people of course you can- I mean I'm sure your maman and-
"No I like just us, calm and peaceful."
"No stress," I smiled back "A rarity these days.."
"Mhm.." God she was so beautiful, So beautiful he could spend forever mesmerising the pieces that made her, her, "Your staring at me." I told him
"I can't stop" he admitted, all he wanted in that exact moment was for Evangeline to be his wife. His real, wedding, white dress wife. He wanted to love her more than he'd loved anything before, which forced the question out of him, "What do you say we get married today?..."
My eyes wide, "Here? In Greece?"
"Yeah, some small chapel somewhere. I don't know it was just a thought if that's not-
"That is perfect."
—————
I don't know how we pulled it off, finding some random registrar to 'marry us' in a small chapel in Santorini on a random Thursday morning but boy we did.
He even found me a bouquet of sunflowers, he'd remembered a conversation we had weeks ago when I was painting, "You like flowers hm?" He asked looking at the canvas
"Sunflowers most."
"Why sunflowers? That's so random."
"Well they're sturdy and happy - I mean you couldn't kill them if you tried. Come hell or high water they always survive, that's what I like about them. Not your average rose." I explain with a small as I try to fin a sufficient enough yellow.
And as soon as that conversation had registered in his brain he decided he liked them too, anything that was Evangelines favourite was automatically his too.
I had brought a dress that was worthy of a wedding, long white and slightly flowy in the wind as it came to my ankles comfortably. He wore a pale blue shirt, he must've been sweltering in this weather but he didn't appear it whatsoever, he looked handsome, so very handsome.
"I Evangeline Fleur Ashby, take you Charles Marc Herve Perceval Leclerc to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part... again." I smiled, our hands intertwined as I looked into his green eyes. This is my family. My husband.
"I Charles Marc Herve Perceval Leclerc take you, Evangeline Fleur Ashby to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part," he chuckled "Again."
"You are now pronounced husband and wife again," was announced "you may kiss the bride."
And he had no problem doing that.
Over and over again.
I was overwhelmed with so many feelings at once, "You need to tell your maman! And your brothers oh and Susannah and-
"You can do the honours of telling Susannah." He smiled to me, passing me his phone as we walked down to the local beach. Greece was nice. We had private beach access and it was simply tranquil. Nobody knew us, and that's how I much preferred it, "I think she'd be annoyed if it was me to break the news, we all know your her favourite."
"Well she does say that yeah." I laughed to him, I wondered if my maman was watching over us. What she would think of this whole ordeal, marrying a business man just like she'd done years ago.
We waited for the phone to ring as we reached the water, the signal wasn't the greatest but it wasn't something that I minded often, when the line beeped I couldn't help myself, "Susannah! Susannah guess what?"
The voice replied, "You got married above Perissa beach in Santorini?.."
My brows knitted together, Charles looking at me confused as I put the phone on speaker, whoever this was certainly wasn't Susannah, "Uh-
"Shame Susannah had to miss it but it was her time." The voice replied to my confusion.
"Her- her time? Who is this?"
Charles grabbed the phone from my hand tapping at the screen as if it was doing anything, "Oh she's dead Eva! Come on! Thought you were smarter than that," the voice laughed menacingly "I wonder how soon your time will be..."
And the call ended.
