I froze, those three words, "Daughter in law?" I looked from my dad to the other lady, to the boy that looked just a bit older than me who was still sitting in his seat, an arrogant look on his face as he stared me up and down.

My father stood besides me, a sigh leaving his lips as Mrs Leclerc instructed the two of us to sit down. But I refused, standing my ground "I don't-, what's going on?"

Before anyone else could speak up, the young boy cut in making the older man glare. "We're getting married, Mon Cheri, today in fact."

I laughed bitterly, "This is a joke, you're all  joking and it isn't funny. This isn't funny dad, it's my birthday."

"I suggest you watch your tone young lady." Mrs Leclerc spoke, I didn't like the way she was talking to me as if she was above me in some way, which I suppose she was. "You are about to sit down and discuss business with a powerful man."

I remembered some of the stories my mother would tell me about the business' in Monaco, and how they would get away with everything as it's such a small country. They often had money, a lot of it. But now I was sitting at a table with Charles Leclerc and I felt nothing, literally nothing but anger.

I'd heard about this man before, even in Paris.

If this was the last time my father was going to comfort his little girl, then he may as well make the most of it. He grabbed my hand guiding me to sit besides him, but that did nothing. I still tugged my arm away, turning to leave the room, unfortunately I didn't get very far because the second I did I was face to face with the man from downstairs.

My father spoke harshly, if he was using his French it was serious, "chérie s'il te plaît" I listened this time, slowly backing away from the larger man and taking a seat. "The Leclercs have been very good to us."

Charles flicked me a look, he wasn't smirking this time, instead, his face held what looked like sadness. It was obvious that he didn't want this as much as I did, but both of us were stuck in a deal out of our control.

"Now let's start shall we?"

My father hovered over me, intense eyes burning into the paper, Charles had signed, his hand gripped the pen so hard his knuckles turned a pale white. When it was my turn though, the whole world seemed to spin and if it hadn't have been for Mrs Leclerc who went by Pascale briefly explaining the situation I would've tried another escape.

Charles had merely said five words to me but kept his gaze up, since a young age, I'd only dreamed of what my wedding would be like. To be pronounced husband and wife in front of a whole crowd of people, family and friends would cheer and I'd stare lovingly at my husband. Id imagined a field of daises, or was it bouquets of roses? But as I sat at the desk, paper beneath me, all I wanted to do was throw up.

"I don't want to." I turned around, looking up at my father. "Please don't make me." My hand shook and it brought my dad back to the day he initially signed the contract, his heart practically beating out of his chest. But he had faith that this was the right thing to do. Looking over at Charles he knew that I'd be safe, or at least as safe as I could get.

"You will do this Eva, or I swear to god."

"You'll do what? You're already marrying me off to him." I snapped, the pen falling out of my hand and rolling over to Charles who picked it up, tapping it against the desk, "This is not fucking funny dad, let's go home."

Charles leaned back in his seat, watching intently and smirking when she spoke back. She was more  feisty than he anticipated and he thought it was funny. He let out a small laugh, running a hand through his curls as she looked at him, uncertainty written on every aspect of her face, "Come on Mon Cheri, this is for your family," he chuckled "I've done my part, now it's your turn."
