Neither Yeonjun nor Soobin could believe what had happened.
Namely, that Taehyun had simply left the building and made off on his own. After making this shocking discovery, they had immediately rushed to the caretakers to inform them. Kim Jisoo and Lee Sandeul reacted immediately when they heard about Taehyun's escape. Their expressions showed both concern and determination as they set off to find the boy and take control of the situation. Meanwhile, Yeonjun and Soobin were instructed by the orderlies to return to their rooms. The urge to intervene and help was strong, but they knew they had to follow the instructions of the professionals. With reluctant feelings, they obeyed and went back to their rooms.
The silence that lingered in the corridor reflected the restlessness that raged in their minds. As they waited for news, questions and thoughts ran through their heads.
Why did Taehyun want to leave the residence?
What was bothering him and what was he afraid of?
The minutes passed like hours while Yeonjun waited. Every muffled step in the corridors made his heart beat faster, hoping they could have found Taehyun quickly. The uncertainty gnawed at him, even though he was sure that he didn't even like the boy.
Was it the feeling of loneliness that he shared with Taehyun?
Was that why he felt connected?
He couldn't find an answer to his questions and the more he thought about it, the more exhausted he became until sleep finally caught up with him.
When they went to breakfast together the next morning, Yeonjun and Soobin's worry was still palpable. They often exchanged glances with each other, looking for the skinny boy in the cafeteria, but there was no sign of him.
Had Kim Jisoo and Lee Sandeul really found him?
The two nurses were nowhere to be seen and Kim Minji was in charge of breakfast. But the two boys didn't dare ask any questions, not even to each other, and of course this silence didn't go unnoticed by someone like Huening Kai.
"Where were you two tonight?" he wanted to know from his roommate, but Soobin only looked helplessly in Yeonjun's direction.
He didn't want to talk about Taehyun or the conversation they had shared.
It should remain between them and they agreed on that.
"I ... was sick and Soobin was looking after me," Yeonjun lied, his eyes on his breakfast bowl so that Kai couldn't see the lie on his face. The wrinkles on his forehead would immediately give away the chaos of his thoughts at night, but he shoveled a spoonful of cereal into his mouth.
Kai frowned, looked from one to the other and opened his mouth theatrically, but was interrupted by Soobin: "Look, Kia's back!"
All eyes wandered to the entrance of the cafeteria, where the manager was standing together with the psychologist Kim Soohyun and her friend Jeon Jeongguk. She immediately gave the residents a loving smile, raised her hand and was then engaged in a conversation by the psychologist. Her face was marked by heavy bags under her eyes and she didn't have the energy she usually had. You could see that something had happened that was causing her a lot of worry.
