Yeonjun had been sitting on the tiles of the Moonlit roof for almost an hour, gazing up at the starry sky and trying to count the twinkling dots to shorten the waiting time. But it was already long after eleven o'clock and he was beginning to wonder whether Soobin would come.
The moon was shining particularly brightly that night, shining on the façade of the building and explaining once again why the leaders had chosen this name for the residence.
The moonlight made the rust-red façade gleam.
The tall grass blew in the wind and stretched across the entire meadow to the forest, which was completely silent. Occasionally you could hear a few owls and the rustling of the wind as it brushed through the treetops. But the house on whose roof the boy was standing was asleep. And all the young people, children and employees were asleep with him.
Yeonjun sighed, put one arm under his tilted head and pressed his lips together. The rumbling in his stomach because he hadn't eaten dinner tonight was unbearable and reminded him of the many years he had lived with his mother and father. It was no surprise that today, at the age of 19, he didn't have an ounce of fat on his stomach. And although he stroked his flat stomach, he remembered the past meals at the residence. Varied, healthy, tasty. He loved the food here, and above all, he had realized that he loved to eat. That was why he regretted his bad mood today and that he had remained stubborn instead of going to the cafeteria. He deeply regretted it and could have cursed himself.
"At night, when it's quiet, these thoughts are the loudest," he recalled Soobin's words and had to agree with him. It was the many questions that accumulated during the day and rained down on him at night.
But how could the night be so cruel when it looked so beautiful?
With all the glittering stars and ...
There it was again: the murmur that sounded so familiar to Yeonjun. It was the murmur of the sleepwalker who had actually appeared. For a moment, Yeonjun had even been pleased, thinking that Soobin had snuck in for him. But when he saw him at the railing, he knew that it was the sleepwalking Choi Soobin. He was sleeping soundly and staring at the forest again, as he always did.
Should he take him back to bed this time?
After all, he hadn't accepted his invitation and had fallen asleep instead.
Had he forgotten about her?
Or didn't want to see him?
With a hiss, Yeonjun drew in his breath, finally climbing skillfully from the roof and landing on the cold floor of the balcony. Without his slippers, his toes would freeze, just like Soobin's. He held on tightly to the railing, letting the wind tousle his hair.
"Soobin," Yeonjun pronounced the two syllables, which sounded as sweet as their owner himself. He was affectionate and shy, but above all he had a big heart. And he hadn't been able to bring himself to break the rules, even such simple ones. Not even for his newfound friend. And even if it annoyed Yeonjun, he couldn't be mad at the big guy, but approached him carefully.
