Choi Yeonjun dragged himself to the bathroom with an aching back, as if he had spent a whole week training his back muscles at the gym and was therefore sore. It was late, past midnight, and one of the nurses had already made the evening rounds to check that everyone was in bed. Yeonjun was at first, but he needed some fresh air to clear his head before going to bed. Otherwise he would never be able to sleep peacefully, as he hated dreaming. Especially when he was haunted by nightmares. He remembered the balcony where he had first seen the sleepy resident Soobin and therefore knew where he could enjoy the evening air.
This was exactly the place he wanted to go.
Just before he reached the glass door - it took him twice as long as usual because of his limping gait - he discovered that the light was still on in the bathroom. Yeonjun wondered if there was someone else in the building besides him, or if it was one of the counselors and he was going to get in trouble. However, since they had their own room with their own bathroom, as far as he had heard from the young people's conversations, he put this thought aside and approached the entrance to the men's toilets and showers. However, when Yeonjun pushed it open, he saw the smaller, brown-haired boy he had seen in the morning. The one who had to be calmed down by two counselors because he had become conspicuously angry for some reason.
Kang Taehyun, that was the resident's name, was standing with his back to the mirror.
He didn't notice that someone had opened the door and tussled his tousled brown hair with his thin fingers. The T-shirt, which was far too big for him, emphasized his thin, bony arms, and he scratched nervously behind his ear. From behind, his spine was particularly visible, and when he heard the creak, his head snapped to Yeonjun.
A little shocked that he had disturbed the younger man in what seemed to be a private situation, Yeonjun babbled incomprehensibly, "Sorry."
He took a few steps back, trying to get out of the stranger's field of vision, and groped blindly for the handle of the glass door.
When he felt it, he pushed it down and stepped outside.
The wind immediately whipped against Yeonjun and he closed the exit behind him. It was cold and the moon was shining brightly that night. It wasn't a full moon, but the meadow and the forest were illuminated by the moonlight. The grass was almost glistening, and when Yeonjun put his hands around the railing of the balcony, a cold shiver came over him. He heard the rustling of the strong wind, the cawing of the crows and the chirping of some of the insects that lived in the meadow. But otherwise it was as quiet as a mouse. It was so quiet that he could hear his heart beating, and he enjoyed the silence. Being alone, where no one could stare at him and ask him questions. He closed his eyes, tried to turn in on himself and block out the pain running through his limbs for a moment. It was as if he could feel every single bone, as if he could breathe in the fresh air and exhale the negative thoughts.
He hadn't felt this good in a long time, and he could truly say that he felt good here and now...
Yeonjun's eyes widened when he heard thumping at the other end of the balcony.
