"Taehyun is making progress," said psychologist Kim Soohyun, holding his large notebook in his hands and looking the young woman in the face with a smile. "I think Taehyun will soon be ready for psychotherapy."
Pak Kia was happy to hear this.
She was so glad that the time had finally come and that the teenager was no longer resisting everything. He was still suffering from a few outbursts, but the fact that his psychologist was reporting progress was a big step in the right direction. "Do you think that would go well?" Pak Kia asked excitedly, wide-eyed, fiddling slightly with her wide, white sleeves. "Do you think he'd be able to stay calm?"
"I said 'soon', Kia," smiled the professional psychologist, then Kim Soohyun held out a page from his notebook to her. "We shouldn't rush it. You know how difficult he is."
She nodded, took the note and glanced at it. It was an incredible doctor's handwriting with some of the patient's notes scribbled on it. She was able to decipher a few words such as 'signs of dysmorphophobia', 'tantrums' and 'anorexia nervosa', which made her feel queasy. Taehyun's psychologist had probably found out more than she had hoped in just a few observations. She felt her fingers begin to tremble slightly, as they always did when it came to one of her protégés. She didn't know if it was sympathy or sadness she was feeling.
"These are all unproven assumptions," Kim Soohyun explained, "I can find out more at a private psychotherapy session."
Pak Kia was glad that he often helped her out, as he knew how much she cared about the residents, even if she hadn't known the person for long in this case. Taehyun had only joined the Moonlit residence two months ago, claiming that he had been rejected by his foster family and was looking for a place to stay. Of course, the manager reacted quickly and took him in. So many children and young people were simply thrown out the door and the boy with the skinny build wasn't even 18 years old yet. Unfortunately, Pak Kia had not yet had the opportunity to visit his family, as Taehyun did not have a cell phone with him, nor did he know any numbers by heart. The family name 'Kang' was also very common and since they had gotten almost no information out of him, they had to wait and see.
For now, it was just important that the boy got better soon and, above all, started eating properly again.
For the first three weeks, Taehyun only drank water and ate one apple a day, which was completely unhealthy for a teenager of his age. He also refused to eat in front of the others, hid in his single room and ate there. He was one of the difficult cases and they already knew that when he entered the house. Taehyun was sometimes unpredictable, started scratching his arms at random and never stopped. The nurses had had to stop him from scratching his skin bloody often enough, which is why his upper arms and thighs were also marked numerous times.
Pak Kia let out a deep sigh as she thought about the past few months.
She had often talked to Jeon Jeongguk about it, trying to find out what was best for him, but it was difficult. It took time to get better, even if you had lived with it for 17 years.
