CHAPTER 11: FROM THE DEPTHS OF THE SOUL AND HEART, A PLEA FROM WITHIN.

third person's POV.

...

Eve and Cayden sat in the dinning area, sipping coffee. As Cayden zoned out, Eve was just staring at him, noticing his messy hair.

Eve said, teasingly, "Kailan ka huling naligo?"

Cayden's eyes widened. "Ha? Bakit, mukha na ba 'kong zombie? Kakaligo ko lang kaya kahapon!"

Eve smirked at his reaction and continued, curious about Cayden's life before the apocalypse.

"Ano bang ginagawa mo dati bago itong apocalypse?" Cayden's usual lighthearted expression softened, realizing this was the first time they were in a serious topic.

"Petty crimes, mostly. You know, survival mode." he answered honestly. Eve, without judgment, nodded, wanting to understand more.

"So, ilang taon ka na?

"Twenty-two." Cayden answered, smiling. Cayden realized that, despite Eve's tough face and personality, she was the closest person to him in the mansion.

"E, ikaw? Siguro nasa 30 above ka na."

"Kapal ng mukha mo. Hoy, twenty palang ako!"

Eve remembered the first time they met. Before everything went crazy, she was on her way to the city gym when all of the sudden, she noticed people running. Everyone was in a panic. Eve got confused, but she started running too and kept looking back to figure out what was going on.

As she was trying to make sense of the chaos, a large truck started smashing cars. Scared and not knowing what to do, Eve was almost hit when suddenly, a guy pushed her out of the way. They both fell to the ground, but that split-second move saved her life.

Cayden appeared, unexpectedly saving Eve's life. As Eve's surroundings became a blur, her hearing distorted, Cayden tried to break through the chaos.

Cayden was shouting at Eve to pull herself together, while she struggled to regain her senses, feeling disoriented. Cayden, realizing the urgency, grabbed her wrist and pulled her away from the place.

"Why did you save me back then?" Eve asked Cayden, curious about that fateful day. A shy grin crept across his face, and he scratched the back of his head, his cheeks turning red.

"Ah, ewan. Ayoko lang siguro na mamatay ang magandang babae na may magandang katawan." Eve raised a brow at Cayden, questioning his unconventional reason for saving her.

Eve, skeptical, asked, "Eh kung pangit ako, hindi mo ba 'ko ililigtas?"

"MALAMANG." Cayden answered, smiling. His nonchalant response made Eve annoyed and punch his arm in disbelief.

Eve's cheek turned light red when she weakly whispered her gratitude to Cayden, "Thank you for saving me no'ng oras na 'yon. Without you, I might not be here. Siguro isa na ako sa kanila..."

Cayden, with a grateful smile, replied, "Wala 'yon. Salamat din sa 'yo! Dahil nga sa'yo, hindi na ako takot araw-araw. Pinapatibay mo loob ko at tinuruan mo 'kong maging matatag."

Cayden and Eve went quiet for a moment, but Eve broke the silence, "Do you think we'll make it out alive, not just by ourselves but together?" Cayden, too shy to answer, just stared at Eve.

He envisioned the future and thought that he couldn't live without Eve, who had become more than just an acquaintance to him...

Perseus who was on the radio, turning its knobs, was surprised that a channel crackled. He immediately called out his friends, "Hey guys, come over here! I've got something on the radio!"
