CHAPTER 12: BELONGING TO THE NIGHT.
third person's POV.
...
"Don't you dare give up, Eve! Hang in there!"
Eve, unconscious and in need of proper care, was gently shifted into a recovery position. Serena carefully positioned her on her side, with the top leg bent at a right angle. This positioning helps prevent choking and ensures a clear airway.
Serena noticed the heavy bleeding from Eve's shoulder. Remembering what she learned about first aid, she knew she had to act fast. With urgency and without fear, Serena used her knee to apply strong pressure directly on Eve's gunshot wound. She pressed hard, trying to stop the flow of blood.
Searching for something to aid in dressing the wound, with no time to spare, Serena quickly took off her t-shirt, leaving her in her tank top. After Serena controlled the bleeding, with trembling hands, she cleaned the wound with water to reduce the risk of infection. She then grabbed the shirt to create makeshift dressings. Placing them over the gunshot wound, she pressed down firmly to help the blood clot and seal the wound.
Cayden stood nearby, his eyes filled with worry and desperation. He hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "Anong gagawin ko kung wala ka, Eve?"
The bleeding suddenly restarted, so Serena reapplied pressure and focused on stopping the bleeding.
Serena, serious and focused, shouted to the unconscious Eve, "Stay with us! Fight, damn it!"
Serena knows how bad Eve's gunshot wound was on her upper arm. Eve already lost her conscious, indicating that she's in a critical condition.
The potential for vascular injury, nerve damage, and broken bones weighed heavily on Serena. This made her really sad and unsure if she could help. Even though things looked tough, Serena refused to give in. She kept trying really hard to help Eve because she cared so much, even she is fully aware that Eve's condition is tough to make it better...
Cayden, witnessing how bad Eve's condition was, also began to feel a sense of hopelessness and started feeling really down. The gunshot wound weighed heavily on him, and he, too, started to doubt if there was any way to help Eve.
"It's no use." Serena, overwhelmed by the situation, muttered. She thinks that there might be nothing more they could do to save Eve. Feeling defeated, she added, "She's lost so much blood."
Cayden shook his head, refusing to give up, so, he took action. He started doing chest compressions on Eve, determined to try and help her despite the desperate situation.
"Cayden, stop! It's useless!"
Cayden's desperation evident in his eyes, shook his head, "Sabay pa kaming aalis dito!" Cayden, not wanting to give up on Eve, refused to stop, feeling desperate to do something more.
The group cried more as they faced another loss. The sadness grew, making the air heavy. Everyone felt the pain of losing someone again, leaving them in deep sorrow.
Zild gently held Gerthy's hand, but suddenly, she hugged him, tears streaming down her face.
"Zild, natatakot ako. I don't want to die," Gerthy expressed, sobbing into Zild's shoulder.
Zild whispered back, "I won't let that happen, Gerthy. I told you, we'll get through this together." he reassured her and hugging her tightly.
Syndra spoke with a heavy heart, "We're really now at a place where stepping on the fallen is the only way forward. It's a harsh truth – humanity has fallen. The world has changed, and survival means confronting choices we never imagined..."
