Dongmei sat in the palace garden, sitting straight and while fidgeting with her fingers. Dongmei always felt uncomfortable in the gardens. Maybe when she was young, she had enjoyed it, but that was when she could still see. Now that she couldn't see anything, she often relied on her memories to remember what things and people looked like.
"Dongmei Gongzhu." the princess stiffened, she hadn't heard anyone approach me. She bowed her head, letting her fingers trace over her sword hilt. "There is no need for fighting. Do you not recognize me by my voice? I have heard that your hearing and memory are the best in the nation." Dongmei furrowed her eyebrows, trying to place the voice.
"My apologies, General Rong. I wasn't aware it was you." she put her sword away. "If you wish, please, join me." As Dongmei folded her hands in her lap, Rong sat down, pouring a cup of tea for himself. "I wasn't aware that you would be staying at the palace for some time," Dongmei said quietly. Rong laughed at that.
"To be honest, I wasn't aware I was staying here either. But his imperial highness had requested me to stay for a while." Rong chuckled softly. They stayed silent for a while, neither speaking to each other. "Princess, I do realize that you are blind, but I noticed that you had a jian with you. Can you still fight?"
Dongmei smiled softly, her hand touching her sword again. "I can. I only learned how to use the jian because as a blind person, there's not much to do. I can't paint, I can't read and I can't do embroidery. I can't even enjoy a garden on a nice day." Dongmei put her hand back in her lap.
"Can you use the bow?" Dongmei frowned.
"W-what?"
Rong sighed, "Can you shoot?"
"How would I shoot if I can't see? To shoot, vision needs to be necessary." Dongmei tapped the table, "Right, my lord?"
Rong nodded, smiling softly. "That's true. What if... never mind. A silly thought." he got up. "Excuse me, Dongmei Gongzhu, but I'll take my leave now. It was a pleasure talking to you."
"Good bye, Genrerl Rong." Dongmei bowed her head until she could hear his footsteps fade away.
