"Is she still sleeping?" Rong asked Cheung when he stepped out of Dongmei's room. Cheung nodded, closing the door behind him.

"Xiuying said that she might sleep until tomorrow night. That spell she cast the other night...it took too much spiritual energy from her." Cheung cleared his throat, walking down the covered walkways next to Rong, both of their sleeves swishing with each movement.

"Are you sure we can trust the people here?" Rong looked around to make sure no one was near, "Siwang main clan or not, they're still Siwang." Cheug sighed.

"General Rong, I've already told you this. We can neither trust them nor not trust them. They have been kind enough to aid the princess, but whether they will turn or not, we don't know. The best way to deal with this is to leave as soon as Dongmei recovers." Rong nodded, clearly not happy staying here at all.

------

Xiuying dabbed the wet cloth across Dongmei's brow, checking the princess' forehead for a fever. The moment the back of her hand touched the princess' forehead, Xiuying quickly drew her hand away as if she were burned.

Dongmei's forehead wasn't hot, it was ice-cold. Making sure that the princess was still breathing, Xiuying puzzled over this phenomenon. How was it that Dongmei was sweating when she was as cold as a dead body?

Dongmei muttered something in her sleep, her face scrunching in pain. Putting the cloth on Dongmei's forehead to soothe her, Xiuying got up and left, running out to find Cheung and Rong. She nearly ran right into the two of them, her troubled face startling the two young men.

"What?" they both said, steadying Xiuying. For a moment, Xiuying couldn't speak, trying to catch her breath. When she did, she grabbed both boys by their sleeves.

"I need you to cheek Dongmei's spiritual energy." she blatantly said. "She's sweating, but she's as cold as a corpse, and while I was tending to her, she showed signs of pain." this made them hurry their pace, practically running to Dongmei's room.

"If something happens to her..." Rong muttered, "Cheung, if she dies, please kill me. I would never be able to face Caihong and the Emperor." Cheung didn't answer, but he seemed to be thinking along the same lines.

Despite how capable and powerful the princess was, she was still the princess, with little experience of anything, especially given the fact that she had been blind for most of her life. The princess' life was entrusted to the two of them, and her health was their responsibility.

Once in the room, Cheung and Rong hurried to Dongmei's side, Rong placing two fingers against her neck and Cheung two fingers against the inside of her wrist as if checking for a pulse. Both had closed their eyes and wherever their fingers touched would glow gold or blue.

When Rong touched Dongmei's forehead, it suddenly flared a bright red. Cheung opened his eyes and looked gravely at Rong. Turning to Xiuying, Chenug stood and approached the young girl. "Is there any way you can wake her?" Cheung asked, looking back at Rong, "She needs to be awake now." Xiuying bit her lip, studying Dongmei for a moment before nodding.

"I can try...but if I fail, she will die." Rong looked up from what he was doing, sharing a look with Cheung before slowly nodding.

Cheung turned to Xiuying, emotion completely void from his face.

"Do it."
