A Broken Man

Chapter 7: The Ritual

Night was approaching, almost everything was ready, a guard came over to Zane.

Zane: " Is everything ready?"

The guard nodded, another came over with something in his arms, Zane came over, looked at what the guard was holding and smiled.

Zane: " Good. Get ready boys, sometime things can get messy when you're working with dark magic."

The two guards nodded, the one who was holding something came over to the living quarters, it was the sleep Alexis. The youngest guard was a bit on edge, he didn't know what Zane was planning on, he was brief with the plan.

The youngest Guard: " What are we going to do? Are we going to kill her? W-w-we're not going to kill her, are we?"

The guard holding Alexis: " No, we just need her for part of a ritual. The Lord instructs us to make sure no one interrupts Zane when he goes through this."

The youngest Guard: " The Lord? As in Zane's father? The Lord of O'Kha.."

The guard holding Alexis: " No, a different Lord, a more powerful Lord than Lord Garte or even the whole state of O'Khasis itself."

The younger guard covered his mouth.

The younger Guard: " A Lord that is more powerful than the whole kingdom of O'Khasis?! Imposable."

The guard holding Alexis: " It isn't, at least that's what Zane told us."

The younger Guard: " And why do we need Alexis? She's still a baby."

The guard holding Alexis: " *sigh* I do not know for sure, all Zane just said she's perfect for this. You know that strange amulet he carries around?"

The younger guard nodded.

The guard holding Alexis: " It's called a Transponder Amulet, you can talk to anyone with it in any Realm. Zane and the Lord been communicating with each other with it."

The younger guard looked away and teared up a little.

The younger Guard: " I don't want to do this... I didn't sign up for this."

The guard who was still holding Alexis, sigh and gently patted the younger guard's shoulder, he just became a guard and was under so much stress after Zane picked him to join on this mission.

The guard holding Alexis: " I know, but we don't have a choice to follow Zane. He is a twisted man who kills and hurts anyone who doesn't listens to him, cross him or get in his way. The only reason why me and the other two are doing this to keep our families safe. I don't care if Zane kills me, just as long as he doesn't hurt my family, I'm willing to die for them. I'm sorry you're going through this. I really am."

The younger guard wiped his arm on his face, he bit his lip a bit as more tears rolled down his face. One of the other Guards saw them and called them over.

The other Guard: " There you two are. Come on, Zane told us to meet him at the plaza before the moon is at its highest point."

The guard who was holding Alexis looked back at the younger guard. He wiped his face again before following him and the other guard. When the moon was at it's highest point, purple and black blotches started to appear, they were as hard as steal and it seem like it was hard to break it. The four guards join Zane, who set up bench that was made out of part of the black and purple stone.

Zane: " Bring her to me."

The guard who was holding Alexis quietly: " *sigh* I'm sorry little one."

The guard handed Alexis to Zane. He placed her in the middle of the stone, he places his amulet on Alexis, next to the necklace he gave to Molly who gave it to Alexis. He pulled out his book and started repeating the word for this ritual.
