Alice's POV

My dreams were filled with fuzzy, flashing images of people that I didn't know. I was pretty sure that they were memories of people and places I used to know that were all in the past.

But when I woke up I found myself lying on my hard bed even though I had fallen asleep in the corner on the opposite side of the room. Shrugging it off, I assumed I must have been sleep walking again, which wasn't a strange occurrence.

As I got up to walk around the room, there was a knock on the door. Annabelle. The words, the face, the laughter flicked past my eyes, making my energy pulse, I had memories, which I would cherish of her for a long time to come. The past few months had been great with her, she had told me so much about everything, from what it's like on the outside of these walls, to what it's like to have a family. My guard had never returned from the hospital and we both assumed she had left, or worse, but there was never a new guard replacement, which in itself was strange. Annie opened the door in the same cautious way, as she did everyday. The grime that had smudged her face the day before had gone, showing that she had washed, letting her pure beauty shine through. Annabelle's hair was neatly brushed and tucked behind her ears, which was still a stark contrast to my own. I hadn't noticed before how pretty she was because of all the dirt and grubbiness that hadn't let show through. She carried two black plastic trays in her hands. Smiling, she set down one of the trays in front of me and I gasped as I looked down at the tray - it was double my usual portion, just as she had promised all those months ago. Thanking her graciously, I tucked in. She had been trying to get me more food for months, and only just succeeded, it warmed my heart to know she was thinking of me.

"I'm going to get you out of this dump, even if it kills me." Said Annie, breaking the silence.

I stopped chewing mid-mouthful in complete and utter shock. My eyes widened and filled with tears as I stared into her eyes. They showed all her emotion, but deep honesty radiated the most. It was so sudden and out of the blue, I just sat there shocked until my reflexes and brain kicked in again, but before I could say anything, she beat me to it.

"What? You're just so nice and you don't deserve to be here." There was a slight fierceness in her tone. I couldn't believe it, she had officially gone crazy! What was she thinking that we could ever escape from here?

"Are you kidding? No one's EVER gotten out of this place."

"But lucky for you, I'm here. In the past few months I have conveniently memorised the entire building and all the guards time tables, I was kind of getting bored when I first came here and its all the guards talk about at meal times and if I am correct, which I usually am, I could get you out of here tonight." Her face lit up brightly as she said the words, but all I could think was how this was too good to be true.

"What the heck? Are you serious?!" I practically shouted.

"Hell yeah! Why wouldn't I be?"

"B-B-But it's IMPOSSIBLE! No one has or ever will escape!" I stutter, this could not be happening, how could it be happening?

"Until today we will be the first and last to escape, hopefully." She muttered the end, almost as if she didn't want me to hear it, but I did and oh, boy, did I know this was too good to be true, there had to be a catch.

"But what about your brother and money for his education?"

"I've been here seven months! My family is probably millionaires by now by how much they were offering for me to be here PER DAY! No way he won't get a decent education now. There's nothing stopping us now!" She throws her head backs and laughs, pulling me off the floor and dancing round the room, swinging me in circles making me feel dizzy.
