"gumiii c'mon wake up, food is here."
y/n lightly shook the boy who groaned and stuffed his head in the pillow. his dog plushie was wrapped around his arms.
"5... more... hours..."
megumi replied whilst cuddling closer to y/n who chuckled at his words. patting his head softly, y/n caressed his cheeks with endearment in her eyes.
"the pizza is going to get cold."
y/n said. with that, megumi shuffled in y/n's hold and opened his eyes fully.
"bleh. cold pizza."
y/n smiled and got the boy on his feet.
"is dad outside?"
megumi curiously asked. his handheld itself firmly in y/n's hold. y/n nodded a reply. as the two headed to the dining room, toji was already there seated, using his phone. a bored expression as he typed on his phone.
"dad!"
megumi greeted and ran towards the chair of his father. clinging onto his legs, megumi had a smile on his face. it warmed y/n's heart to see the smile of the child. he was absolutely adorable in her eyes.
"how's your nap?"
toji asked. he then brought megumi onto his lap. the kid marveled at the five pizzas on the table. toji had ordered a tad bit too much of pizzas. the man had a big appetite. 3 pizzas wouldn't be a problem for him. megumi could only stomach so much. y/n blinked at the amount of food on the table.
that's a lot of food... she thought to herself. taking a seat down, y/n stayed silent. the conversation between toji and her lingered in her mind like an endless record.
megumi climbed down toji's lap and proceeded to take a seat beside his teacher. his legs swinging as he waited for the pizza on his plate. y/n took the liberty to take a slice for the boy whose eyes sparkled at his favourite flavoured pizza— hawaiian.
"thank you sensei!"
y/n smiled and gave him a nod before getting a slice for herself too. megumi didn't care about his hygiene and made sure his whole face was stuffed with pizza toppings. tomato sauce smeared all over his mouth as he chomped down the pizza.
y/n laughed as she looked at the boy's face. a puzzled expression on his face as he wondered why his teacher was laughing.
toji couldn't give a damn and under 10 minutes had managed to devour a whole box of pizza. y/n who was still going strong with her second slice.
"say... y/n, what did you work as before you became the brat's teacher."
it was another way of toji trying to make conversation after that awful one. y/n paused. the pizza that was inches away from entering her mouth came to a halt. megumi gazed y/n with curious eyes.
"i... was a writer."
it sounded foreign on her lips. months ago, the phrase 'i'm a writer' would come out of her mouth often. now, it was in past tense. as much as she liked her new job as a daycare teacher, she pursued writing since she was a teenager. it was her dream career and she had fulfilled it. albeit only a short period, it was a rewarding experience for her.
"a writer huh.."
the words left toji's mouth listlessly. y/n gave a curt nod and continued eating. she then decided to ask back.
"what do you work as mr fushiguro?"
a chuckle was heard. y/n's head tilted just the slightest to the right upon the sound of his deep laughter.
"as i've said, please do call me by my first name."
once again, y/n nodded a reply. she waited for the man to answer her question. megumi on the other hand couldn't care less about the adults talking to one another. he was busy picking out the pineapples on the pizza. he then directed them to his mouth and then continued disembelling the pizza.
"i'm a contract killer."
toji said without much thought. it was illegal but he could tell that y/n wasn't the type to report him to the police. megumi was his triumph card after all. what would happen to the boy that she treasures so much when his father got into jail? toji was playing a dangerous game and he knew it. he knew that he would win it.
"a... hitman?..."
y/n leaned back from her seat. taken aback, y/n gulped. her palms sweating when toji nodded at her inquiry with a smirk. his body leaned closer to the table as he took in a sharp breath. his voice deep and low as he opened his mouth.
"so miss writer, are you going to report me?"
it was a deal breaker question to toji. he knew the consequences of the thin line he was on that could spread a wildfire. y/n blinked and held in a breath.
it was as if she lost her ability to breathe. megumi didn't know what a contract killer was, much less than a hitman. the kid was in his whole world, devouring pineapples.
y/n steadily shook her head. terrified to the core, y/n's eyes never left toji. the smirk on toji's face widened even more. the scar on his lips raised. yet y/n was in some sort of odd ease. it was like she knew that toji wouldn't hurt her at that moment. sure she was stunned by his occupation but there was a reason behind it... right? money had to be earned in some way or another.
"then let's keep this little secret safe hmm?"
toji moved closer to y/n. his body heat radiating off him, making y/n alarmed. his rough hand moving upwards. fingers rested on her jawline as he placed a single trail along her jawline. his touch igniting and burning y/n's skin.
words were incoherent to y/n. the invisible imprint that toji had left on her lingered as toji pulled his hands away. his eyes held amusement in them as y/n had shuddered under his touch.
"ew dad get your stinky hands off sensei."
megumi had cut everything. y/n silently thanked the kid. megumi stuck his tongue out when toji narrowed his eyes at his kid.
"har? what did ya say brat?"
megumi looked away with a huff and continued munching his pizza.
"so why did you quit being a writer?"
toji changed the topic effortlessly.
"my editor and publisher decided to cut ties with me."
"that's a shame. what's your book called?"
y/n revealed a few of her works while toji took his phone out to note them down. as much as he hated reading, he wanted to get to know y/n. reading one of her works would be a start.
"is there a reason why you bring megumi early to the daycare?"
"the earlier the brat leaves, the better."
megumi grunted at his father's words. he then glared daggers at him. megumi knew that his dad had to go to his job early and hence listened to his every word.
it was almost 8 p.m.. the time whereby toji would leave the fushiguro apartment to go to his favourite place. filled with lust and desire, toji decided to hold himself back for tonight.
toji's usual trips to the club were his way of celebrating another day of the successful killing. for a woman to be up close to him in a non-sexual way was different.
this was different.
and it was the spark to something different in both lives.
it would be a lie for toji to not admit that he was attracted to y/n. the same could be said for y/n with her attraction for toji. but now, it was on a whole new level because of the danger surrounding toji.
he's a freaking hitman. no, don't let that affect you. yes y/n don't let that affect you. just... act normally. just ignore that stupid piece of information and move on. this is why you shouldn't be prying on information.
y/n sighed to herself before engaging in a light conversation with megumi.
yeah. like nothing happened at all.
