"hi, can i take your order?"

toji held the genuine urge to hold back a sarcastic response to snap at the waiter and instead looked at y/n who placed her order.

megumi swayed on his chair, left and right while listening to y/n voice out her order. toji followed and then looked at his brat-of-a-child. the boy didn't know what he wanted to eat and hence stayed silent when his father repeatedly questioned him on his choice of food.

"megumi what do you want?"

"dunno."
megumi continued to sway and play with the napkins on the table. his little hands grabbing on the edge of the napkins. the boy then had the marvellous idea of trying the end of the napkin.

sneakily placing the napkin into his mouth toji looked at the menu to order for megumi.

it taste weird. bleh.

megumi stuck his tongue out and grimaced at the napkin.

at the corner of y/n's eyes, she spotted a megumi trying to taste a napkin. panic settled in her.

"megumi, what are you doing?!"
her face confused as she took the napkin out of megumi's hands. a giggle left the child as he told y/n that he tried to taste the napkin. holding in a sigh, y/n told the boy to not do it again to which he simply nodded.

"papa what did you get?"

"none for you since you didn't tell me."
toji lied with ease. the boy simply believed his father while y/n held in a chuckle. he crossed his arms and let out a short huff.

"papa is a bully."
megumi pouted and scooted closer to y/n.

"and what do you do when you're faced with a bully, cry?"

"fight them."
megumi replied plainly. y/n blinked blankly. did toji just tell his kid to resort to violence?... megumi, now on y/n's lap, held his hands with hers.

"that's my kid."
toji stated. from an outsider's point of view, the three almost looked like a family. a happy one. the atmosphere was uplift, megumi chiming into y/n and toji's conversation. as their food and beverages were served, megumi dug into his chicken nuggets with glee. the so-called family of three were contented.

it was a simple meal with great food. yet it was raw with emotion and unspoken feelings.

after the meal was finished, toji got the bill. megumi and y/n waited together for the man outside the restaurant. megumi was seemingly lost in thoughts. y/n didn't want to disturb him and instead took a little photo of him in a daze. slipping her phone pack into her pockets, y/n locked this get together in her head.

"sensei, sensei, i have a question."
megumi tugged y/n. his head tilting upwards to look at y/n's face. y/n hummed a reply and squatted down to look the boy in the eyes. there was slight uncertainty hiding in his green eyes. the boy shifted a little and tugged his hands behind his back.

"yes gumi?"
y/n reach for his hands which were previously hiding. the fisted hands now in hers as megumi finally found the confidence in him.

the question he would ask would be the biggest dealbreaker to y/n. something that she hadn't expected or even considered.

"c...can i call sensei-- m...my mom?"
hesitancy laced in the child's voice as he avoided eye contact. there was a little gulp as he continued to feigned eye contact.

the heartstrings in y/n almost broke when he heard the little guy. she didn't know what to reply. if she said yes, which she really wanted to, what would toji think? the two were merely just acquaintances, at most friends. she was megumi's teacher yet the bond between the two said otherwise.

"oh megumi..."
her voice wavered a little as she brought the boy into a warm hug. she was at a loss for words. sentences unable to form in her head.

toji stood by the door, listening to megumi's question and y/n's response.

the toned man didn't know how to react. he wouldn't mind if y/n said yes. in fact, he wanted y/n to say yes. megumi lacked a mother figure in his life and y/n would be able to fill that void. as for toji wanting to pursue her was another story for the future.

toji then realised,

his child meant more to him.

y/n looked into the restaurant, expecting toji to be inside but was proved wrong when she saw him standing there with the ends of his lips curved upwards. he's fucking smirking at me???? y/n thought to herself.

y/n mouthed to the man, 'can i say yes?'. it was easy for toji to answer. he shrugged his shoulders and replied with a, 'up to you.'

y/n blinked slowly. does this mean he doesn't mind it at all? the woman then looked at the boy who was stuffing his head on her abdomen. anxiety filling him as y/n had yet to reply to her.

a gust of cold wind blew. light goosebumps littered on megumi's forearms but he didn't care. y/n hadn't realised it yet. the dried-up aburn leaves fell onto the ground, and surrounded the two. y/n's clothes brought warmth to the little guy.

"gumi?"
y/n pulled the boy away from her. a beautiful smile graced her lips as she patted the boy's head.

"you can call me mom."
y/n pushed his dark hair away from his forehead. lightly, y/n pressed a kiss on megumi's forehead. a blush ignited on megumi's face as he jumped around, cheering 'sensei is my mamamaaaaa'. this lasted for a good one minute before he let out a sneeze.

"c'm here, wouldn't want you to catch a cold."
y/n open her arms which megumi hastily stuffed himself in y/n's loving arms. it was cosy hug for the two, appreciating each other's presence. y/n then lifted megumi off the gound and placed another gentle peck on megumi's chubby cheeks.

"mama."
megumi softly said as he relished the idea of y/n being his mother. he liked it. the boy's little heart was filled with content.

"yes 'gumi?"
the jet black-haired boy shook his head and proceeded to place his head at the crook of y/n's neck. his hair tickling y/n a little but she paid no attention to it.

"let's go to the park. the brat hasn't been there in a while."
megumi's eyes instantaneously lit up as he gleamed at his dad. it truly had been a while since megumi had gone to fool around at the park. he missed it the most when he would be on the swing with his dad pushing him to the highest of his ability even though it was dangerous.

"let's goooooo."
dragging his words, y/n adjusted megumi who was cuddling y/n like a koala. giving a curt nod and a flash of a smile, y/n followed toji to his car where the man opened the door for her. with megumi seated on y/n's lap and toji behind the wheel, megumi went into a food coma.

it was the simple things in life that lit joy.
