It's Been A Long, Long Time // Steve Rogers

Chapter 47

Steve's POV

"Are you seriously telling me I can't see her?" I glared at my two best friends and Bucky shrugged. "It's bad luck, punk." "Steve, she's gonna show up."

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair, "I know. I know. I'm just nervous." Bucky walked up to me and patted my back. "I'll go check on her, okay?" I nodded and he walked out of the room. "So, you excited?" Sam asked. "Excited, nervous, terrified. All of the above." Sam smiled and laughed a little.

"What are you nervous and scared about?" He asked.

"Being a husband...a father..." I admitted, sitting down on one of the chairs. "That's what you're worried about?" I nodded slowly and leaned back. "What if I'm not good enough." "Steve, you're going to be an incredible father." He said, sitting down next to me. "I don't know how to take care of a kid, Sam." I whispered.

"You'll figure it out. You always do. And fatherhood, it will come to you. You'll learn as you go." He patted my back and I sighed. "What if I'm bad at it? What if I fail?" I looked over at him and he stood up from the chair. "Then you get back up and try again. You're not a quitter Cap. You'll figure it all out in time. Fatherhood doesn't have a manual or step by step instructions, it's a day by day sort of thing. Now, come on. Let's go get you married."

I stood up from the chair and Sam and I walked out of the room and outside where Pepper had transformed her back yard into a wedding ceremony and reception. The lake was our backdrop and it was truly perfect. I wouldn't be able to thank her enough for this. I greeted some of our guests as well as Carol, Theo, and their families before taking my spot at the end of the aisle. I'm glad they were able to make it. It would mean a lot to Becca. The chattering slowly died down as light music started playing. This was it. The moment I had been waiting for. Marrying Becca.

Scout and Morgan were first out. Scout was in an adorable black bow tie while Morgan walked next to him, dropping flowers along the aisle. Once Scout got to me, he eagerly jumped on me before Clint was able to wrangle him long enough to calm him down and get him to sit next to him on the bench. Soon, the music shifted slightly again and Becca and Bucky emerged around the corner. Becca looked absolutely breathtaking in her dress as she and Bucky slowly walked towards me. Her dress trailed behind her and I couldn't contain my smile as I gazed at her. The dress fit her perfectly and accentuated her already beautiful features. She was just so effortlessly beautiful.

In that moment, watching her walk towards me down the aisle that I realized. This was all exactly how it was supposed to be. Everything was right. I'll still never know if bringing her to the future created an alternate reality or if the way things worked out were always supposed to happen, but I didn't care. She was safe and she was alive. Not only that but Rebecca Ann Barnes was about to become Rebecca Ann Rogers. Like she was always meant to be.

They stepped up the small step and Bucky pulled her into a hug before pulling me into one. "Don't fuck this up." He whispered. I gave him a lopsided grin, "I'd never." He patted my back as he pulled away and placed Becca's hand in mine before sitting down next to Pepper.

"Hi." She whispered, holding tightly onto my hands.

"You look gorgeous, sweetheart." I whispered. A blush flushed across her cheeks and we looked at Sam who started the ceremony. "We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two extraordinary individuals, whose love has stood the test of time, literally. I have never met two people who are more perfect for each other than Steve and Rebecca. The love they have for one another is nauseating but beautiful."

I rolled my eyes and glared over at Sam who couldn't help but laugh. "Sorry, but in all seriousness, I am so happy for you both." Sam clapped me on the shoulder and then looked at Becca first. "Becca and Steve have chosen to write their own vows. Becca?"
