"Haejin, baby, wake up. Please." Haejin's mother almost begged Haejin to wake up. This scene had been going on for almost half an hour, and when Haejin heard that it's only around eight in the morning, she slept again.
It was Saturday, the weekend. Haejin usually would wake up around noon on Saturdays especially, to compensate for the sleep she loses on weekdays because of her college and her part-time job. This is the reason it was hard for her mother to wake her up in the morning, especially on Saturdays.
But then, Haejin's mother did something unexpected. She snatched Haejin's quilt, making her open her eyes wide. Haejin sat up straight at once, glaring at her mother who just stole her blanket in the cold weather and was now smiling victoriously.
"What? It's cold! Let me sleep, mom." Haejin nagged, plopping herself down on the bed again, her eyes closing themselves on their own. That was until some specific words were spoken by her mother and she sat straight up again, her eyes now comically widening.
"Get up, Minho is coming in an hour and you're going with him." Her mother spoke.
It was then when Haejin heard these words that every memory of the night before came flashing to her mind, and, she was again reminded of her marriage.
Her mood instantly dropped at her mother's words because who would want to go out with their arranged partner on a Saturday? Not her.
"What? Why?" A little dissatisfaction was heard in Haejin's voice. She didn't even want to think of Minho, or the the marriage until she actually gets married and now that she was told that she has to go with him today didn't help even a tad bit.
"For the selection and fitting of your and his wedding outfit." Haejin's mother replied in a normal tone, as if she just hadn't dropped a bomb on her sleepy, twenty-two year old daughter.
"Already?" Haejin asked.
"Yeah, we don't have time. The marriage is literally on the next Saturday."
Oh, yeah. Haejin thought to herself, her eyes rolling themselves involuntarily.
"I know you're disheartened, and, I'm sorry. But, get ready. He's a punctual person." Haejin's mother spoke softly, patting her shoulders and then left the room. She didn't want to see her daughter in vain but she couldn't even do anything to pull her out from this situation, and the guilt surely was consuming every part of her mind and body.
Haejin got up from her bed, her mood had already been ruined and it was just the start of the day. She definitely didn't even want to think what this wonderful day has planned for her so she just diverted her mind by getting ready to meet and go out with the person she definitely didn't want to see.
While taking shower, Haejin could not help but weep a little. How could she not? She had been trying to hold her emotions in front of everyone but she couldn't hold them when it was just her.
It wasn't the marriage that was the main problem, it was her troubled past, which troubled her even in the sleep she had taken last night. And it only made her remember every bitter memory of the marriage of her parents, her skin covering itself in goosebumps just at the thoughts of what had already passed and will not repeat itself.
Everything led her to dislike the idea of marriage, and now she was going to do just that, that also in a week from today.
The fact that Haejin couldn't even share this to anyone who could at least make things a little better, was hurting her even more.
Her mother? If she would've understood Haejin, she wouldn't have even said anything of the sort to Haejin.
Hyunjin? Sure, he could help but in Haejin's case, she was someone who needed constant reassurance that everything would be fine, that Minho was not like her father. Hyunjin couldn't do that, he had his own life and she didn't want to become a burden, texting or calling him every hour of the day.
