"Hank, can you take a kid in?" Connor Rhodes asked the Police Sergeant that was standing in the reception of the hospital

"I can, we don't have any other kids at the moment apart from our own" Hank said, turning to the childrens doctor

"I have a 6 year old, beaten by his dad, he has broken ribs, broken wrist, sprained knee as well as multiple bruises and cuts" Connor said, handing Hank a file that was thick with previous notes

"He's slightly younger than we've ever had, I'd need to talk to Antonio, see how he feels" Hank said, pulling his phone out of his jacket and ringing his husband

"Hank, are you on your way back?" Antonio asked sleepily, he was at home on his day off having just completed at 12 hour shift

"Nearly babe, look, Connor has a 6 year old needing a placement, you feel ok taking him in?" Hank asked, heartbreaking as he read the teens file

"Of course Hank, do you need me to come down and help?" Antonio asked, suddenly sounding more awake than before

"No, I've got it handled, maybe just have some food ready for when we get home though?" Hank said, following Connor through the hospital to a small treatment room where a brown haired boy was laying curled up shivering despite being covered in a thick blanket

"His name is Jay, his brother was killed by his dad last year but DCFS couldn't get enough evidence to remove Jay from the family" Connor said softly

"He's so small" Hank whispered

"He's malnourished, and from the amount of notes in his file was definitely abused quite often" Connor said, knocking on the door so not to scare Jay

"Mister Connor" Jay said shakily, eyes watching Hank fearfully

"Jay, this is Hank, he's a friend of mine" Connor said gently

"It really hurts Mister" Jay whimpered, showing Connor his fingers which Hank could see were clearly broken

"I know buddy, you can't have any more pain medication, not yet" Connor soothed

"What happens to me now?" Jay asked quietly

"You'll be going to stay with Hank and his husband, they are very good friends of mine" Connor said, motioning for Hank to come closer

"Hi kid" Hank smiled

Jay just looked down at his lap, he wanted to feel happy that he was finally out of the hell hole he had been living in but the pain that was running through his body was overpowering any other emotion. Connor watched the boy that was shaking slightly, he could only guess that he was cold, and saw Hank pull of his jacket and wrap it around Jays smaller body.

"That better?" Hank asked softly

"Yes, thank you mister" Jay said, smiling at the police sergeant

"I'll go get your discharge papers" Connor said, swapping places with Hank who sat down next to the small teen

"Where's your husband?" Jay asked softly

"He's at home making some food for us, are you ready to go?" Hank asked, helping Jay off the bed as Connor came back in witn the discharge papers

"My legs really hurt" Jay suddenly whimpered

"I'll carry you, you have a sprained knee so that's most likely why" Hank sighed, picking up the 6 year old, eyes widening at how light the boy was

"You're really warm" Jay whispered

"Antonio says the same thing" Hank chuckled, wrapping his jacket around Jays smaller body
