Hank Voight and his son Justin Voight stood at the entrance to the prison, they had been caled when an inmate had been attacked for being a police officer. The inmate in question had sworn he wasn't however they had to run his prints just in case and it came back to a Detective Jay Halstead-Voight.
The ex-Detective had been reported missing 2 years ago, and it had been assumed that he was dead. The case had gone cold within 6 months as there was no evidence to help the team find out what had happened. All there had been was Jay being shown on a CCTV camera walking to his car and driving out of the district.
He never made it home.
Then Hank got a call a week ago about an inmate that was requesting to speak to him and Justin; he hadn't been too suspicious until he was made aware of the inmates name. Ryan Clarke, it was the alias that the ex detective had used when he had worked with Intelligence.
"You really think its him?" Justin asked quietly, handing over his gun to the frowning officer who was running the front desk
"I think so, his whole file is redacted, but Teusy is trying to get it for us" Hank replied, following the officer down the hall to an empty room woth just a table and three uncomfortable looking chairs
Both men looked up when theh heard the door reopen, eyes widening as they took in the figure that was being roughly shoved towards them. It was definitely Jay, but he didn't look like the Jay they loved and remembered.
Justin's heart broke as he realised that Jay had clearly been in this prison for the whole time he was missing. He was skinnier than he remembered, his face guant and eyes lacking the light they used to have.
Jay was trembling, but the men couldn't tell if it was from pain or from the cold; he was holding himself up with a frame, his steps looking painful and forced. His hair was a buzz cut showing large scars all over his head; Justin knew all his husbands scars but there were so many new ones he was at a loss.
"Hank, Justin" Jay mumbled, looking up to show that even his face had new scars
"Kid what happened?" Hank asked, helping Jay sit down on the chair
"They said I committed murder, under my alias name but I didn't, I know I didn't, I tried to get ahold of you but everything always comes back to me" Jay stuttered out
"How long have you been in here babe?" Justin asked, reaching out for Jay's trembling hands
"I don't know, I got attacked last year and everything's been blurry since then" Jay admitted
"You got a brain injury?" Justin asked
"Yea, I tried to ask them to get Will but they wouldn't, it's scary, so much is missing from my memory" Jay whispered, clutching Justins hands tightly
"You remember we're married right?" Justin asked quietly
"Of course, it was the only thing that kept me going" Jay sniffled
"We're here to get you out, do you have any belongings to collect?" Justin asked, nodding when Jay shook his head
"They stole everything I had, I just want out of here" Jay whispered, shifting uncomfortably
"Ok, come on" Justin whispered, helping the fragile man back onto his feet and handing him his frame so he could walk
Hank could only watch quietly as he watched the man that used to be his second in command, shake in pain as he shuffled out the door infront of Justin. He was set on finding out what had happened to Jay in the last two years, as clearly it had been traumatic and had caused the once strong man to become a shell of what he used to be.
