"Jay, do you have anyone we can call for you?" Hank asked the small victim infront of him
"You'll have to phone my social worker" Jay said quietly, pulling his knees to his chest
"Have you no family kiddo?" Hank asked softly
"No, I've been in the system since I was 4, her names Katie" Jay whispered, shivering slightly as the cold swept in from the door being opened
"Sorry, he looked cold so I went to get a blanket" a new voice spoke, and Jay looked up to see a blonde haired man who had a kind smile on his face with a fuzzy looking blanket in his arms
"Thanks mister" Jay smiled, allowing the man to wrap the blanket around his small body
"Adam, can you and Justin sit with him until I've spoken to his social worker" Hank asked
"Of course, but not in here, its too cold, Justin is making hot coco in the break room" Adam said, reaching for the 9 year olds hand
"Who's Justin?" Jay asked quietly, holding Adams hand
"That's my husband" Adam replied softly, opening the break room door
"Hi bud, you want whipped cream?" a man asked, but Jay had hid behind Adam, looking at the bigger man with fear in his eyes
"It's ok little man, he won't hurt you, I promise" Adam said softly
"No thank you" Jay whispered, still hiding behind Adam
Justin only nodded, placing the cup down on the table before sitting on the opposite side to where Adam and Jay were. The 9 year old, gripped the back of the blonde haired Detectives tshirt as they walked to the table, whimpering when Adam sat down.
"It's ok Jay, you can sit down on my lap, and then we'll wait for Katie" Adam said, reaching for Jay who climbed on to Adams lap and hiding his face in the older mans neck with a soft sob
"I'm scared Adam" Jay sniffled
"No need to be scared buddy, I won't let anyone hurt you" Adam soothed, running a hand down the little boys back
"Katie is on her way, she's asking if you guys can take him in for a few days, she has no families available" Hank said quietly as he walked into the break room
"I've no issue with that, he's clearly attached to Adam" Justin said, watching his husband who was whispering to the little boy on his lap
Hank smiled as he watched Adam, the blonde detective had always wanted to be a father but his parents had told him as a gay man it would never be possible. Adam was a natural, he had managed to calm Jay down who was now falling asleep.
"Ok, I'm here, sorry traffic" Katie started, but stoppping when she saw the small Halstead fast asleep on the Detectives chest
"Shall we step outside" Justin said, he didn't want to disturb Jay as he knew the boy was scared
"Yes, I don't want to split them up, have you and Adam got foster licenses?" Katie asked
"We do, they finally went through last week" Justin replied, watching his husband through the door
"I've never seen Jay this calm, he's had a hard couple of years" Katie sighed
"Can I ask what his story is?" Justin asked, turning to the social worker
"His parents were alcoholics and drug users, he was born addicted to drugs but unfortunately we didn't have enough proof to remove him from the household, he was abused for 4 years but we don't really know what happened as he won't speak about it" Katie explained, looking in her bag and pulling a thick folder out of her bag and handing it to Justin
"How many families has he been to?" Hank asked, looking at the file that was in his sons hands
"That was he 10th one, they can't deal with a child who has as many issues as he does, he's developmentally delayed so has the functioning of about 3-4 years old, he's not potty trained so has nappies and he's extremely sensitive to loud noises, we think he has some sort of abandonment issues as he does cling to people" Katie continued
"We're willing to take him, what support does he need?" Justin said, flicking through the file and heart breaking at the photos of abuse the child had suffered
"He just needs to be loved, that little boy in there hasn't had a chance to be loved since he was born" Katie said
"What paperwork do we need to sort?" Justin asked, handing the file back to Katie with a sad smile
"Just need signatures from yourself and Adam, confirming that you understand the needs and also a photocopy of your licences" Katie smiled
Justin nodded, reopening the break room door quietly so that they wouldn't disturb the sleeping child. Adam looked up and smiled at his husband who sat beside him, and the blonde Detective leaned into the older mans side with a soft sigh.
"Katie is sorting paperwork out for us, he's coming home with us" Justin whispered, wrapping an arm around Amads shoulders and kissing the mans head gently
"I think he needs a change" Adam whispered
"Yea, I'll find some nappies, maybe Katie will have some until we have gone shopping" Justin said, standing up and walking out the room to where Katie was photocopying the licenses that the two men had
"Adam" a small voice whimpered, and the blonde detective looked down to see Jay looking at him with tear filled eyes
"Hey little man, you ok?" Adam asked, shifting Jay slightly so the boy was straddling his lap
"I'm wet" Jay sniffled, rubbing his eyes to clear the tears
"That's ok, Justin is going to find some nappies for you" Adam soothed
"Where's Katie?" Jay asked
"She's just outside talking to Justin, you're going to come stay with Justin and I going forward, until they can find you a more permanent solution" Adam said softly, running a soft hand through Jays hair
"I don't want to keep moving about, can't I just stay with you" Jay asked
