Chapter 28
Diane finally came back before Thanksgiving and she was the reason why I wasn't going home to my parents' house to celebrate because she had invited me over to her house for a Thanksgiving party. Trevor gave her a month to recover from the accident before she could come back to work. As much as she hated it, she couldn't argue.
It has almost been two months since Trevor and I last talked. Everything started back in mid-September when we had our trip in California until it ended when Alexis came into the office by the second week of October. Time flies so fast, huh? Now it's almost December and it feels like nothing has changed at all.
Okay. There were slight changes.
Sometimes when Trevor and I would talk, there's a tension between us and there are times I could feel that he wanted to talk about us. I do too but I didn't think I was ready.
Just when Diane finally appeared in the office, she immediately noticed that something was off between me and . I hadn't spilled everything to her so I did oTrevornce she came back and started suspecting things.
So tonight, she invited me, Sara, Andrea, the two boys and Trevor to her party. It wasn't a wild party like in high school but it was more of a dinner.
Because it's actually a dinner.
Sara and I came to Diane's house together with a bottle of champagne in my hands and pumpkin pie on her's. We both knocked on the door and Diane opened it a second later.
"Hey!" Both Sara and I greeted.
"Happy Thanksgiving!" I said and she said the same thing back. "I got champagne!"
"Yes! Thank you," Diane replied and took the bottle from my hands as I handed it to her.
"Here's my gift!" Sara cheerfully said and handed the pan then claimed, "I baked it!"
Diane smelled the pie and she let out a hum - the ones you hear when celebrity chefs taste their own food. "Wow, it smells so good. Thanks Sara."
"You're welcome," Sara curtsied and Diane let us in her house.
"So, are we the first ones?" I asked as Diane led us to her living room.
She settled our gifts on the table in the kitchen and came back to us. "My boyfriend Toby is here but yes, you were the first ones."
"Great!" Sara squealed. "Who else is coming?"
"I invited Andrea, Brandon, and Dylan since they were supposedly spending Thanksgiving alone like you two," she said. "Oh, and Trevor too," she added and gave me a wink.
I scowled at her and she laughed.
There was a knock on the door and Diane rushed to get it. Andrea was standing there with a small boquet of flowers and a box of Uno cards.
"Happy Thanksgiving," she said as soon as she appeared behind the door and handed the flowers to Diane who smelled them.
"Thank you. You, too," Diane replied and let her in. "What's with the Uno cards?"
Andrea smiled. "Well, I thought it would be nice to act like antisocial teenagers again."
I gave her a confused look. "Antisocial?" Because that was totally me - well, used to.
She shrugged. "Yeah, like not the drinking and dancing around type," she added. "You know, similar to that thing they did in Perks of Being a Wallflower."
"Oh, the truth or dare scene?" I asked.
She nodded. "Yeah, but we could do other things too like Spin the Bottle," she said.
