Chapter 6
The week continued like the usual - chatting with my officemates, Trevor going out of his office and sooner or later we suddenly exchange glances and return awkward smiles, walking to Megan by the hallways and have a little chat as well.
Ivan, on the other hand, had been joining me and my friends lately at the cafeteria every lunch time. Diane and Dylan - who had been working in the company for two years - have known but haven't talked to Ivan before so it made awkward silences whenever he comes along. Ivan doesn't get bothered by it though. He talks to my other friends too but mostly he was talking to me.
Today is Saturday - my first weekend with a job and first weekend to hang out with a boy.
Ivan has been begging me for three days to come with him on this day to hang around places as friends. I agreed anyway.
I wore a sleeveless top with red denim skirt and some sandals because it was becoming hot but still I wrapped a thin scarf around my neck for the sake of my look. Summer really is coming.
Just as I was about to go, someone banged on my door and when I opened it, Ellie showed up in a cute red sundress with flowers as the design. She looked really pretty in it and charming as well.
Despite her look, I widened my eyes. "Hey," I said. "What brings you here, Ellie?" I quoted from Trevor Schmidt's words yesterday. Nice reference.
She grabbed my forearm. "Let's hang out," she said. "I'm free today."
I forced a smile - oh hell no, how about Ivan then? I couldn't just turn him down after he knelt before me for three days. I couldn't just turn Ellie down either since she came from her university all the way here.
"What's wrong?" Ellie asked innocently. She's so sweet. I wonder why no one asks her out. Maybe she already has a boyfriend but she doesn't want to tell me.
I scrunched my face. "I have a new friend who just wanted to hang around and he had been asking me non-stop since Wednesday." I answered.
"Wait - who's he?" She teased wiggling her eyebrow at me.
I scowled with a laugh. "He's my boss's half-brother," I shrugged. "And that doesn't mean we're dating. I'm not going to let him pass that line."
She pressed her lips together, keeping a laugh. "Paige," she put her hand on my shoulder. "I didn't ask you anything." After that sentence, she just started laughing but I joined her anyway.
"Just c'mon," she pulled my arm towards the hallway. "I'll come with you and you have to introduce him to me and vice versa."
I locked the door and shut it before getting dragged towards the elevator. "Okay, okay." I sighed.
Once we were inside the elevator, she nudged me on the rib a little hard.
"So," she started. "How's your handsome boss?"
I cringed at her adjective though it's true - Trevor Schmidt is the most handsome boss you could ever have.
"Oh, you know." I shrugged and gulped down - how am I going to say it without her reaction?
Ellie is a woman of reaction - she is full of reactions. Whatever I am going to say, she's still going to react anyway.
"Well, last monday it was raining and I didn't have an umbrella so I was soaking wet on the way to work."
