Chapter 20

The last thing I could remember was Trevor telling me a tale about this girl he liked back in high school. He said he really liked her but she was oblivious according to him so she never really knew. Apparently, that was all I heard since I already fell asleep. Actually, I think I heard him say that he has been looking for her even until now.

My eyes abruptly open when the sound of my alarm clock buzzed throughout the whole room. I woke up on the right side of the bed, facing the sunrise from the windows - only that it was in a different angle. For a moment I was confused if I was in the right condominium unit or if I moved my bed to where I was but I don't remember doing either of it before I slept until I saw the TV and my laptop on the coffee table - I realized I fell asleep on the couch.

I also realized that Trevor was still here.

I sat up quickly, throwing the covers off, noticing them for the first time. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry," I immediately apologized as he rubbed his eyes.

He opened his eyes and blinked as he looked around. "Hmm? What?" He said in his morning voice - which got me squealing inside. . . just a little bit.

"I'm sorry I fell asleep on your lap," I smiled apologetically.

He stared me for a moment as if he wanted to interject. He opened his mouth but quickly closed it again, raising a finger. "T-that's fine," he shrugged, smiling. He tried to stand up but only shrank back to the couch, groaning.

"Did your lap fell asleep?" I looked closer at his hurt face. His eyes opened and I suddenly found myself lost in his blue eyes. They gazed at mine for a while then glanced down to my lips and back again.

I sat back down to my spot almost quickly and looked outside the windows as I sensed him leaned his head back on the couch. I turned back to him and his eyes were closed again, taking a deep breath as if the numbness of his lap was hurting him that much.

I cleared my throat. "Are you fine now?"

He nodded and stood up carefully. "Yeah. What time is it?"

"It's 6 am - time for work." I reminded him in case he forgot it's just Wednesday. "Aren't you going home yet and get ready?" I stood up and made my way to the kitchen.

He followed me and put his hands on the counter to lean on them, his arms flexing inevitably. "Let's call in sick today." He said.

I paused while holding a drinking glass and poured water in it. "What? How about your mother? Won't she get mad?"

"You know, I don't wanna stress about it. Do what she wants to do to my place. I've had enough problems going on." He answered with a shrug then my phone rang on cue.

"Paige! Can I come over?" Ellie said once I answered my phone.

"Good morning to you, too." I sighed. "I don't - " I got cut off when Trevor suddenly spoke.

"Hey, Paige, can I use the bathroom?" He asked and I mentally face-palmed myself.

I turned around to face him. "Yeah, sure."

"Looks like I can't," Ellie said from the other line. I could sense a smile creeping up her voice. "Who's that?"

I scratched the back of my neck. "Uh. . .  No one." I lied.

"That doesn't sound like no one. C'mon, That's Trevor, right?" She automatically accused and I was ashamed of my lying skills.

I rolled my eyes and laughed sarcastically. "You don't even have to guess who it is."
