☆━━━A TINY YAWN TUMBLED past my lips as I blinked, drawing myself from my racing thoughts. I glanced around, remembering where I was.

The park was nearly vacant, which was a strange thing considering it was usually crowded at a time like this. It was only seven in the morning, and people would typically be out at this time to enjoy a morning jog in Central Park – with it being early July and the last month of summer break, it was rather warm out. There was a slight breeze that made it cool enough for me to be out in a thin black sweatshirt and jogging shorts, paired with some white Nikes.

Odd combination, yes, but I hate wearing short sleeves.

"Jesus, it's hot as hell out here,"

There was an immediate smirk on my lips as I glanced over, allowing my eyes to lift and land on my best friend, Mason Jones. The darker-haired boy groaned, fanning himself as he lowered his head to look down at me, his mouth twisted into a soft frown whilst noticing the smirk on my face.

"Remind me why I thought it would be a good idea to come out today?"

"Because" My smirk loosened into a grin as my hands dropped to the camera hanging from my neck, lifting it to snap a picture of the lovely look on Mason's face. "It's the last month of summer break, and you just got back from traveling, don't you want ta' enjoy it with your bestie?"

Mason let out a guttural groan, falling back onto the bench as his head tilted back, eyes shutting. He lifted an arm and rested it behind my shoulder. "Sometimes, I question our so-called friendship."

I only rolled my eyes at his dramatics before it fell silent again. Not wanting to go back to my previous over-thinking, I pulled out my phone and earphones, slipping on in my ear as I tapped on my music app. My fingers glided across the screen as I picked my poison and clicked a song.

With my back now resting against the bench, I closed my eyes, the sounds of Paralyzer by Finger Eleven soothing my soul and silencing my thinking mind. Music had always been my go-to when things got tough. Whether it be playing an instrument, singing, or just enjoying the melodies.
