The Wandering Mind and the Lost Progeny

Sedna shoved the last leather pack on board the cutter sailor ship. A sharp nip in the air-- unusual for late summer-- turned her face pink. Dusting off her gloves on her pants, she stepped back to look up at the tall blue sails.

"I think it's ready to go," Sedna shouted, twisting to face her father. He was marching down the line of men, assigning them each a ship. They were heading out to join in the war efforts. There were Fire Nation ships spotted in the Southern Ocean. As the tribe's only water bender of reasonable fighting capability-- her little sister Katara was far too young for war-- Sedna was accompanying them.

Her father nodded, a smile on his face as he narrowed his eyes against the brilliant sun. It scattered off the snow and reflected on the water. Sedna knew that women traditionally didn't join the war effort, but their tribe was too small and fragile to worry about traditions when the Fire Nation was approaching their shores.

Sedna patted her back once, double-checking for her bone spear. It had been a gift from her father many years ago and was carved with a few ancient marks: brave, trusted, and wise. It served as an excellent backup should she ever lose her bending.

Sedna watched the men begin to board the ship and waited until her father was onboard. She held her hands high, ready to push the ships off the ground with her water bending.

"Wait!"

Senda turned. Her two little siblings, Sokka and Katara, were running towards her. They were both a few years younger than her and too young to go to war. She frowned slightly. Had her father not sent them back to the village?

Sedna waited until they approached. "Aren't you supposed to be with Gran-Gran?"

Her two younger siblings exchanged a glance then looked back up at her. Sokka spoke. "We wanted to give you these. They are lucky."

Sedna looked down at his outstretched palm. Katara held her hand out too.

They both held a different stone. Sedna took them, running her thumb over them. Both stones were smooth-- likely having been worn down by the tide. "One for each of you," She remarked.

Katara nodded rapidly. "That way, when you are gone, you have a lucky piece of us with you."

Sedna smiled and crouched to hug them both. "I'll be back soon, and I'll bring you something from the Earth Kingdom."

The two exchanged a grin and stepped back. Gran-Gran was approaching.

Sedna turned and tucked the two stones into her pocket. She raised her hands, and the ocean moved forward, raising the ships. When she lowered her hands, the ocean began to carry the ships away.

Sedna ran at the water, and using her bending, slid along it until she reached a boat. She jumped onto the same boat as her father, coming to a stop.

She turned to face her siblings and her tribe as the ship carried her away.
