Ahmed's POV-

"fucking hurry up in the bathroom!" Mohammed shouted at me, banging on the door.

"i literally just got in, just wait." i told him, washing my face and then brushing my teeth.

Mohammed had been out a lot recently, skipping school and shit like that and getting his friends to cover for him by saying his name during registration.

my mom had no clue about it, but when i asked Mo how long this would go on for he never said anything, just 'until it ends' was his reply.

i got out of the bathroom as he pushed me away, "you took so long."

i took 10 minutes.

"stop pushing your brother." my mom yelled.

i walked into my room and got dressed for the day, putting on some black cargos and an oversized tee, before some silver jewellery on my neck and wrists.

"where are you going?" mom asked him.

"school." he said bluntly, grabbing his bag.

"eat first." she insisted, "i'm making pancakes."

"no." Mo left and closed the door shut.

"what's wrong with your brother? he's been acting strange for the past week." she asked me.

"i don't know mom." i said, walking into the kitchen.

i began eating before she sat down with me.

"is something going on at school?" she asked.

"no, he wouldn't be so eager to go then." i avoided eye contact at all costs.

"i should call the school, let them know that's there's something off." mom picked up her phone and typed in the number on her keypad.

"no!" i replied, "i mean, he's probably going to meet with some friends or something."

"some friends?" she laughed, "Ahmed, he has a bruise on his face, you think he's meeting with friends?"

"yeah, he is mom. i see him with them all the time. anyway, school isn't gonna help if there even is a problem." i really didn't want her to call them.

even though i didn't know what he was doing, as a twin brother you always gotta have their back.

"i'll give them a call." she said, "i have to try something. what kind of a mother would i be if i didn't?"

oh shit. i gotta think fast. i got off of my chair and 'clumsily' knocked over my cup of orange juice. mom stood up hastily and put her phone down to help me.

"idiot!" she said, picking the cup up.

"oh crap, i'm sorry. lemme clean it up." i said, grabbing a cloth.

i soaked up the juice with the cloth and cleaned the table before wiping the floor clean too.

"i'm gonna go now mom." i kissed her on the forehead, "love you."

"i love you too. have a good day!" she waved goodbye to me.

i just hope that that was enough for her to forget to make the call. i met up with Aisha on the way to school.

"hey." she said, walking with me.

"hey." i replied, "this is cute."

i observed her hair, she had worn it in a two space buns.

"thanks." she blushed. "everything okay?"

"yeah." i smiled and held her hand, "everything's great."
