Breaking the rules and getting in trouble for it? That was just life at Hogwarts. But getting in trouble for something she hadn't done? Completely and utterly unacceptable.

Cassie stormed out of the common room, her hands clenched into fists. Draco. That little rat. He just had to open his big mouth and drag her into this. As if she had been the one sneaking around in the middle of the night, trying to get her classmates in trouble.

McGonagall hadn't even listened when she tried to argue. Detention. Docked points. And the sheer indignity of it all.

She needed to blow off steam.

Before she even realized where she was going, her feet carried her down to the dungeon corridors, her heels echoing against the cold stone. She was pacing—furious, muttering under her breath—when a familiar voice cut through her thoughts.

"You're going to wear a trench in the floor at this rate, Cass," Theodore Nott drew, arms crossed as he leaned against the wall, watching her like she was the most entertaining thing he'd seen all day.

Cassie exhaled sharply, her nostrils flaring. "Malfoy's a menace. "

Theo raised a brow, clearly amused. "And this is new information how? "

"Now I've got punishment and we lost Slytherin points." she snapped, throwing her hands in the air.

Theo winced. "Oof. That's rough, mate." Then, after a beat, he chuckled. "Well, I suppose we should start packing our bags now. House exile seems inevitable. Imagine the shame of being associated with the Cassiopeia Black, single-handedly ruining our chances at the House Cup."

Cassie groaned, raking a hand through her hair. "Merlin, I know. I'll never hear the end of it." Her jaw tightened. "I should hex him."

Theo snorted. "Tempting. But considering the professors already have their eyes on you, maybe hold off on starting a blood feud just yet. Snape might be on your side though."

Cassie scoffed. "Snape plays favorites, sure, but it's not like I asked to be his little pet project. Sometimes, I swear my ancestors are rolling in their graves whenever he so much as looks at me approvingly."

Theo grinned. "That's the most Cassie thing I've ever heard you say today."

Cassie sighed, shaking her head, but a small smirk tugged at her lips. "Well, I do have a reputation to uphold."

For a moment, the frustration dulled, the sharp edges of her anger smoothing out. Theo had that effect on her—one of the few people who knew exactly how to handle her moods without making a big deal of them.

"Come on," he said, nudging her shoulder. "Let's go steal something from the kitchens. If you're going to suffer through detention, you might as well do it with a stolen pumpkin pasty in your pocket."

Cassie huffed out a laugh, the tension in her shoulders finally loosening. "See, Theo, this is why you're my favorite."

"Obviously," he replied with a chuckle.
